Level 2

Use the following guidelines to select the appropriate class for your child. If you answer no to any question in a specific level for your child’s age, that is the level you will enroll your child when you register. 

 

Ages 4-7

To pass Level 1, must be able to:

  • Put face in the water/blow bubbles
  • Open eyes underwater/begin to retrieve objects
  • Float on stomach
  • Float on back
  • Roll from front to back
  • Can flutter kick and progress 5 yards on front
  • Can flutter kick and progress 5 yards on back
  • Jump toward instructor and return with light assistance

If you answered no to ANY of the questions, register your child for Level 1. 

If you answered yes to ALL of the questions, read the requirements for level 2. 

To pass Level 2, must be able to:

  • Bobbing-submerge and recover 2-3 times
  • Glide on front
  • Glide on back
  • Can retrieve toy off bottom of pool
  • Can roll from front to back with little assistance
  • Jump in and swim short distance to instructor
  • Can flutter kick on front and progress at least 1/2 lap
  • Can flutter kick on back and progress at least 1/2 lap

If you answered no to ANY of the questions, register your child for Level 2. 

If you answered yes to ALL of the questions, read the requirements for level 3. 

To pass Level 3, must be able to:

  • Submerge and swim underwater for 1/2 lap
  • Swim freestyle 1/2 a lap
  • Flutter kick and progress 1 lap on front
  • Flutter kick and progress 1 lap on back
  • Butterfly kick and progress 5 yards
  • Can tread water for 30 seconds

If you answered no to ANY of the questions, register your child for Level 3. 

If you answered yes to ALL of the questions, your child may sign up for Introduction to Competitive Swimming 1. 

Ages 8-15

To pass Level 1, must be able to:

  • Float on stomach
  • Float on back
  • Submerge for 5 seconds
  • Can roll from front to back
  • Glide on front
  • Glide on back
  • Jump in and swim a short distance to instructor
  • Flutter kick and progress 1/2 lap on front
  • Flutter kick and progress 1/2 lap on back

If you answered no to ANY of the questions, register your child for Level 1. 

If you answered yes to ALL of the questions, read the requirements for level 2. 

To pass Level 2, must be able to:

  • Bobbing-submerge and recover 5 times
  • Begin to push off wall with face submerged to instructor
  • Roll from front to back with no assistance
  • Jump in and swim short distance to instructor
  • Flutter kick and progress one lap on front
  • Flutter kick and progress one lap on back
  • Can tread water for 30 seconds
  • Can retrieve toy off bottom of pool

If you answered no to ANY of the questions, register your child for Level 2. 

If you answered yes to ALL of the questions, read the requirements for level 3. 

To pass Level 3, must be able to:

  • Can tread water for 1 minute
  • Swim freestyle with inline breathing for two laps
  • Backstroke for 1 lap
  • Butterfly kick and progress 1/2 lap
  • Can swim underwater for 1/2 lap

If you answered yes to ALL of the questions, your child may sign up for Introduction to Competitive Swimming 2.

Introduction to Competitive Swimming

Ages 4-7 Introduction to Competitive Swimming

  • can swim freestyle with a fluid breathing pattern for two laps
  • can swim backstroke for two laps
  • has strong skills and endurance in freestyle and backstroke
  • understands the concepts of flip turns
  • understands the concepts of diving

 

Ages 8+ Introduction to Competitive Swimming

  • can swim freestyle with a fluid breathing pattern for two laps
  • can swim backstroke for two laps
  • has strong skills and endurance in freestyle and backstroke
  • can swim butterfly for 1 lap
  • has started learning breaststroke and knows the basic arm, feet, and leg positions
  • understands the concepts of flip turns
  • understands the concepts of diving
