Swim Team

Joining the swim team is a commitment of time.  While there is no requirement to compete, our program, at San Benito Aquatics, is geared toward competitive swimming.  Each group is a progression of skills and techniques that allow our athletes to reach their highest potential.

Dragons (Beginner) - The Dragons will work on learning all four competitive strokes.  The focus is on learning how to listen to a coach, working within a group setting, and practicing swim drills to help build the muscle memory needed to properly perform the four strokes.  (freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke and butterfly)

Dragon II Group (Intermediate I) - They should know the strokes, but need drills and instruction to become proficient.  The 1 hour practice helps them build the endurance needed to hold good form throughout races.  A Dragon II swimmer learns how to read the lap clock and use it in workouts, and becomes proficient with the "swim lingo"  At this stage, the successful swimmer has the focus needed to complete workout sets without continued reminders.

Red Group (Intermediate II)  - Red group swimmers are proficient in all four strokes.  Instruction and drills are focused on fine tuning strokes rather than learning them.  This program level is a balance between building endurance and skill instruction.  Minimum age of 9 years and must be proficient with swim lingo and clock reading.  Must be able to work independently, and is working for competitive success.

Seniors (Advanced)  - Experienced senior level elite swimmers.  Focused on endurance and race training.
