What to bring?
Download and print the following file. Encourage your swimmer to pack their gear and prepare for the meet themselves.
What to eat?
It is important to teach young athletes the importance of good nutrition and the connection it has to athletic performance. While these habits should be practiced every day, we make a special point at swim meets to make healthy and nutritious choices.
- Arrive prepared by packing a cooler or lunch box with healthy snacks, drinks and food. Healthy snacks include fresh fruit, whole-grain bagels, pretzels, peanut butter, sandwiches, water. Please see the following examples of healthy snacks:
- No junk food or soda allowed at meets (this includes food purchased from vending machines and snack shacks).
What to Expect
- Most meets last 3-4 hours. Please check our team website for the warm-up schedule and updates.
- Parents are not allowed behind the blocks or behind the ropes. The best place to see your swimmer compete is from the bleachers or viewing area near the pool deck.
Please Remember
- Arrive early. Late arrivals affect everybody, especially your swimmer. Arriving early allows the coaches to meet with your athlete and it allows your athlete to have the warm-up they need to have a successful meet.
- Purchase a heat sheet. Heat sheets are used to track the events so your swimmer knows when it is their turn to swim. Having this document is absolutely necessary for a positive meet experience. Heat sheets cost between $5-$10.
- Support your swimmer with praise and encouragement. Let the coaches critique and provide feedback about their swim. We believe each meet provides an opportunity to learn and we will be careful to encourage them while providing feedback to help them improve.
- Have your swimmer check in before and after each swim.
- When finished with their events, please have your swimmer check-out with the coach.
