Cayman swimmers start things off at Pan Am Games

Swimmers have secured some best times and B final placements in the Centro Acuático pool – getting things started for team Cayman at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, taking place from 21 Oct.-5 Nov.
 
Cayman’s aquatics athletes finished their events in Chile on Wednesday, 25 Oct., but the 345 team still has competitors in athletics, sailing, and golf waiting in the wings to impress.
 
The swimmers got off to a fast start on 21 Oct., with Sierrah Broadbelt earning a B final placement in the 200-metre butterfly following a quick swim in her heat. She finished third in the B final with a personal best time of 2:20.10.
 
She went on to win her heat in the 400m individual medley, securing her second best time of 5:15.81. Her long-time Seven Mile Swimmers’ teammate Harper Barrowman also found herself in a B final for the 400m free on day one, where she placed second, clocking 4:28.38, just ahead of fellow Caymanian Kyra Rabess, who finished third in 4:28.49.
 
James Allison earned a third-place finish in heat one of the 400m free in 4:07.94. Allison qualified for the 200m B final on day two, 22 Oct., placing fifth in a time of 1:53.19.
 
The following day, Allison swam to a third-place finish in his heats, this time in the 50m free – stopping the clock at 24 seconds flat.
 
Both Barrowman and Rabess competed in the 100m free heats,  clocking 1:02.28 and 59.81, respectively. Meanwhile Barrowman closed the show on 25 Oct., finishing first in heat one of the women’s 200m individual medley, at 2:29.56.
