Charles McClune

Moving to Texas in 2012 Chuck has spent 11 years coaching at Nitro Swimming, the last 3 years as the Performance Coach.

Coaching at Oakland University provided the opportunity to train multiple NCAA II All Americans, with Doug Allen becoming the NCAA II Swimmer of the Year coming out of the Distance Program, then 3 years later Oakland went on to win the NCAA II Championships in 94, 95, and 96. Several of the OU swimmers went on to Compete at the USA Phillips 66 National Championships.

In addition to coaching at Oakland Chuck has spent nine years as a Head High School Swim Coach in Michigan, bringing four different High Schools to 7 Top 10 State finishes. Where those athletes swam to 12 All American individual swims, 9 relay All American swims, 31 All-State individual swims, with 12 All-State relays.

Coaching USA Swimming Programs in Michigan and Texas, Chuck has held several positions ranging from Head Coach, Age Group Head Coach, Senior Coach, and most recently Performance Coach. These Teams during Chuck’s tenure have produced 26 State Championship wins, a USA Sectional Championship, and a YMCA National Championship, while sending countless swimmers to swim in State, Sectional, Futures, and Junior National finals.

“Every swimmer is different; my philosophy is to ask questions of each swimmer getting them to realize that the goal is progress not perfection. To find next years’ time, the stroke you used last year will need to change, grow, and improve.”

Reynaldo Garza

Age Group Coach

Coach Rey arrived at ASC in 2020 with a diverse professional background. In addition to 10 years of swim coaching, Coach Rey earned his B.A. at UT Austin and has professional experience in Business, Law, and Journalism. Coach Rey recognizes that each athlete is unique and that a carefully tailored approach to training, like the kind he's become familiar with at ASC, produces the best results. As a Coach of young athletes, he sees fast swimming as a by-product of developing disciplined, thoughtful, and collaborative individuals.

Coach Rey lives in Austin with his wife, Ashley, and when he is not writing swim sets or reading studies on swimming anatomy, he enjoys hiking, cooking, and playing music on any of his 5 favorite instruments!
