Locker Room Monitoring Policy for The San Antonio Wave

Purpose:  The following guidelines are designed to maintain personal privacy as well as to reduce the risk of misconduct in locker rooms and changing areas.

Facilities:  The following is a description of our practice and competition facilities to allow athletes and their families to plan their use:

We practice at: Antonian College Preparatory High School, Castle Hills Forest HOA and Trinity University.

These locations have locker rooms/changing areas that are shared with the school staff, students and the public. As such, there COULD be people who are not associated with San Antonio Wave in the changing area around the time of practice(s).

Monitoring:   General Guidelines Coaches and staff make every effort to recognize when an athlete goes to the locker room or changing area during practice and competition and, if they do not return in a timely fashion, we will check on the athlete’s whereabouts.

San Antonio Wave discourages parents from entering locker rooms and changing areas unless they have been asked to do so by a San Antonio Wave coach or it is truly necessary. In those instances, it should only be a same-sex parent. If this is necessary, parents should let the coach or administrator know about this in advance.

If an athlete needs assistance with his or her uniform or gear (for example, a child under the age of eight), or an athlete’s disability warrants assistance, then we ask that parents let the coach or an administrator know beforehand that he or she will be helping the athlete.

Section 1 – San Antonio Wave Practice Locker Room Monitoring Policies.

San Antonio Wave has regularly scheduled practice times and limited use of locker rooms and changing areas (e.g., immediately before and following practices and meets). A San Antonio Wave staff member will conduct a sweep of the locker rooms and changing areas before athletes arrive and then again once practice concludes. Doors are to be left open only when adequate privacy is still possible. This allows for direct and regular monitoring of locker room areas during assigned practice times.

All swimmers are to enter and exit the locker rooms from the pool deck only, no exceptions.

Section 2San Antonio Wave Meet Locker Room Monitoring Policies

San Antonio Wave hosted meets have limited use of locker rooms and changing areas both immediately before and following meet sessions. A San Antonio Wave Staff member will conduct a sweep of the locker rooms and changing areas before athletes arrive, may post [staff, coach, parent, other adult] directly outside of the locker rooms and changing areas during periods of use, and leave the doors open only when adequate privacy is still possible. San Antonio Wave staff, coach or parent will conduct regular sweeps inside locker rooms as well, with women checking on female locker rooms, and men checking on male locker rooms.

Section 3 – Camera, Recording and /or Mobile Device Use.

NO CAMERAS OF ANY KIND MAY BE USED IN THE LOCKER ROOMS FOR ANY REASON Cell phones and other mobile devices with recording capabilities, including voice recording, still cameras and video cameras increase the risk for different forms of misconduct in locker rooms and changing areas. The USA Swimming Athlete Protection Policies prohibit the use of such devices in the locker room or other changing area:

305.3 Use of audio or visual recording devices, including a cell phone camera, is not allowed in changing areas, rest rooms or locker rooms.

Section 4 – Reporting of Locker Room Misconduct

Locker room misconduct or rule violations should be reported immediately to the coaching staff on deck. The on deck coach will report to the head coach.  If a cell phone, camera, or other recording device was involved in the misconduct it will be confiscated by the on deck coach immediately and will be returned at the discretion of the head coach and board.
