Parents –
PC Swimming is always in need of Stroke and Turn Official (on-deck). The process is not
difficult, but does take 2-6 months to complete all of the steps and once started, must be
completed within 6 months.
Benefits: Best seat in the house, rewarding contribution to the team, counts toward team
volunteer commitment, fees associated with becoming an official are reimbursed by PC
Swimming and meet entries are often waived for your swimmer for the meets you work. Often
times, to get into some meets, bringing PCS officials helps our team get into the meet. Finally, it
is a great way to meet other parents involved in the Utah Swimming community.
Basic Steps for becoming a Stroke and Turn Judge:
Attend a virtual clinic through Utah Swimming (2-3 hrs). Date/Times are released throughout
the season, but are offered infrequently – so register when you see one that works.
Register with USA Swimming (SWIMS 3.0) as a Non-Athlete/”Training Official”
member and separate from your child.
Complete the Level II background check, Concussion protocol training (CPT), Athlete
Protection Training (APT) and online Stroke and Turn test through USA
Swimming https://www.usaswimming.org/officials/how-to-become-an-official
Complete 24 hrs of on-deck training with a certified S/T judge (roughly 5-7 swim meet
sessions).
