The Minor Athlete Abuse Protection (MAAP) Policy 2.0 is effective 09/01/2021:

The USA Swimming Background Check has been in place since January 2011.
- All non-athlete members of the Water Wolves Swim Team (Coaches, Team Rep, Officials) must complete the background check to obtain membership.
USA Swimming provides free Athlete Protection Training for its athlete members.
- All Swimmers Aged 18+ are REQUIRED to complete this to compete and practice.

USA Swimming non-athlete members (inc. coaches and officials) are required to take Athlete Protection Training annually as a requirement for membership. Link to the Non-Athlete Training.

The Safe Sport Act expands requirements around sexual abuse prevention for organizations that arrange amateur athletic competition for youth. The federal law carries implications for YMCAs, as well as staff and volunteers who interact with youth participants.

YMCA Swimming will have specific requirements for staff and volunteers at its YMCA National Meets, which will include screening, child protection training, as well as a code of conduct acknowledgement.
