New to Somerset Rec Club Swim Team?  Is your swimmer new to SRC or Sharkies?  Any swimmer wanting to join the swim team or Sharkies for the first time, including previous year’s Sharkies wanting to move up to the team, must be assessed to determine whether they will be a fit for either program. Your swimmer must attend the swim assessment before registering and joining the team. Tryouts are typically in the March-April timeframe. Please contact [email protected] to join a notification list.

Returning Swim Team will be notified via email February/March to Register for the 2025 Swim Team.

Swim Team looks forward to another competitive, yet fun season for swimmers ages 7-18.  The SRC swim team is a spirited, family-based swim team committed to providing a well-rounded swim experience balancing community, sportsmanship, and overall enjoyment with high quality instruction, individual skill development, and a competitive team-oriented environment. SRC membership required to participate in Somerset Stingrays.

The Sharkies (Pre-Competitive Swim Team ages 5-7yrs) program is for swimmers who aren’t quite ready for competitive swim team but want more than swim lessons (assessment required).  For safety and pool-size reasons, a maximum of 20 Sharkies will be allowed into the program.  In addition to daily practices, your Sharkie will be invited to swim a 25-yard exhibition event at the start of every home meet.

Swim Team or Sharkies participation REQUIRES:

  1. A Somerset Rec Club Family membership OR a Junior membership for those in H.S.
  2. All fees and payments submitted including the volunteer deposit.
  3. Swim Team registration and Midlakes required forms completed on Team Unify.

All registrations, payments, paperwork and trainings must be completed and paid prior to the first day of practice or your swimmer will not be allowed in the water.   All payments need to be completed via the Somerset registration page and forms will be completed on Team Unify.  Please do not email them to us or drop them off at the pool.

**Please note:  The last day to register for Swim Team and/or Sharkies this year is Saturday, May 10, 2025.

Swim Team Participation expectations: During the season, practices are offered during the 5 weekdays and swimmers are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible. Practices are an opportunity for swimmers to work on technical and racing skills and build their endurance in the pool. In the second half of the season, the team will also participate in weekly swim meets. Swimmers are expected to attend weekly meets unless they notify the coaches that they will be unavailable. Meets are a great way for swimmers to track their improvement throughout the season, engage in friendly competition, and show their SRC team spirit!

Safe Sports:  As pf May 1, 2022, all swimmers will need to be SafeSport trained to compete in Midlakes Swim & Dive League.  Midlakes Swim & Dive League is committed to improving the development and safety of athletes and participants involved in swim, dive, and water polo. In an effort to prevent the emotional, physical, and sexual abuse of athletes, Midlakes has implemented both prevention training and prevention policies. The goal of all trainings is to equip participants with knowledge on how to Prevent, Recognize, and Report sexual misconduct and keep our league safe and fun for all participants.

As a swimmer and/or participant at Somerset Rec Club, you are required to take one of the following trainings:

  • Swimmers 12 and under are required to take the free 15-minute “SafeSport training for Kids” before you will be allowed to swim in practices or meets for Midlakes Swim & Dive League.
  • Swimmers 13 and over are required to take the free 15-minute “SafeSport training for Youth Athletes” before you will be allowed to swim in practices or meets for Midlakes Swim & Dive League.
  • Parents/Volunteers (Role=Volunteer): As a Parent/Volunteer at SRC, you are required to take the free 30-minute “Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sport” before you will be allowed to volunteer or swim in practices or meets for Midlakes Swim & Dive League.

More info will be sent out to families once registration begins.

Team Suits and Caps:  Team suits are encouraged and can be purchased through the link in the Swimwear / Spirit wear tab via Swim Outlet. Caps will be available for purchase at Opening Day, the first week of practices, and at swim meets.  Caps are $5 for latex or $15 for silicone; we ask that swimmers wear them for practice and at meets.

Event, Heat and Lane. Coaches will hand your swimmer a slip of paper that shows the events they will participate in, along with the corresponding heat and lane. It is helpful to write this information on your swimmers arm using a Sharpie pen to help them remember, like this:
