Message From Our President

Hello Vashon Seals Families!

We’re thrilled to report that our recent Bubble Up event was a great success! The turnout of volunteers was fantastic, and we were treated to some beautiful weather. Thank you to everyone who pitched in to help cover the pool and prepare us for the colder months ahead.

As we settle into fall, please remember to be extra cautious around the bubble and in the parking lot. With the shorter days and the possibility of frost, it’s important to keep safety top of mind.

The holidays are fast approaching, and we’ll have a few new volunteer opportunities coming up. Keep an eye out for details in the coming weeks.

Additionally, if you or someone you know would like to make an end-of-year, tax-deductible donation, please consider supporting the Vashon Seals. Donations help keep our club sustainable, allowing us to replace worn-out equipment, replenish essential supplies like swim caps, and offer scholarships for our athletes. To contribute, please visit our donation website.

Thank you for being an essential part of our team’s success. We’re grateful for all that you do!

Go Seals!

- Kelly McSheehy

MESSAGE FROM OUR COACHES

We’ve had a great first two months of the 2024-25 season.  We’ve had 42 kids join up so far, and the Levels 1-2 are going gangbusters.  We had to add an additional offering for level 1.  Attendance is good, and everyone seems to leave practice with a smile and a new skill in their toolbox.  And we are now under the bubble, so it's warmer and drier.

The first swim meet of the year was October 5-6 at Curtis High School, with 350-400 competitors each day.  We had 16 Seals compete, and 6 of them were first-time competitors!  We were led by Anna Cain, with a 9th place finish in the 100 Breaststroke, and three other top-20 finishes.  Congratulations to all the Seals that attended!

The next all-team meet will be December 7-8 in Federal Way.  Every meet at that venue has been canceled this Fall due to staff shortages.  Hopefully King County gets it all figured out this month.  Stay tuned for more info upcoming soon!

Coach Megan has been doing great coaching the level 1s.  She has been joined by Team Captains Gus & Neko, and Super-Seal Ty as assistants.  Thank you to all four for making those 16 kids so happy!

Please be sure to pick up your kids by 5:55 each day … as the pool doesn’t allow adults in the locker rooms while kids are in there.  Evening lap swim begins at 6pm on Monday & Wednesday, and the evening adults are not really patient waiting for that one last kid to clear out.  And remind your kids that the locker room is not a play area … but a place to change into/out of their swim gear.  THANKS!

And finally … remember the first step to improvement isn’t magic … It's going to practice!  So hope to see your athlete at the pool!

COMMUNICATIONS

We would love to feature kids and congratulate them for their achievements on social media - please send a note to Rachel Waldron to let us know if you are open to having your child featured. Respecting photography rights is important to us! We also would love to feature kids “anonymously” - maybe we use a silly nickname only they know without a picture or with a seal in place of their face, or simply with initials.

Simply send a message with your comfort level and we’ll note it!

SAFETY DIRECTOR

We’re still looking for a Safety Director to help maintain our safety protocols. The role is well-structured, and we’d love a dedicated person to lead in this area. If that sounds like you, please reach out to Sean Waldron for more info!
