Gators attend Frostbite Invite in La Crosse

The Gators Swim Team traveled to La Crosse to compete in a two day swim meet hosted by the La Crosse YMCA Wave. The meet was held at the R.W. Houser YMCA on Saturday January 4 and 5th. The 11 and older swimmers started the Saturday morning competition with prelims with the top 12 swimmers advancing to finals.  Bella Rake (12) advanced to the finals in the girls 11-12, 100 yard breaststroke (1:36.79Y) taking 10th place. Barrett Berg (12) and Gunnison Hartley (12) swam the prelim, semi and super finals for the boys 11-12, 50 Freestyle. Barrett took 1st place (27.65Y)  and  Gunnison in 2nd place (29.83Y). Both boys also competed in finals of the boys 11-12, 100 Freestyle with Barrett placing 1st (1:00.61) and Gunnison placing 5th (1:04.57).  Gunnison Hartley also advanced to the finals in the boys 11-12, 200 IM taking 2nd place (2:44.08).  Lauren Kosmosky (11) was an alternate for the girls 11-12, 100 Breaststroke placing 14th (1:42.25Y)  as well as Anneliese Ramirez (11) for the girls 11-12, 200 IM placing 7th (3:34.23Y).

The 10 and under swimmers competed Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning in timed final events with all swimmers swimming personal records. Wren Hartley (8) took 1st place in the girls 8&U 50 Backstroke ( :45.56Y), 1st in the girls 10&U 100 Free (1:28.83Y), 1st in the girls 8&U 50 Free (39.76Y), 2nd place girls 8&U 50 Fly (54.13Y)  and 5th in the girls 8&U 25 Breaststroke (:26.07Y).  Olivia Hustad swimming strong in the girls 9-10, 200 Freestyle taking 4th place (3:17.51Y) and taking 9th in the girls 9-10, 50 Backstroke (47.15Y) and placing 10th in the girls 9-10 50 Free (40.87Y). Everett Ramirez (8) also swimming strong and earned the men's team points by taking 3rd in the boys 10&U 100 IM (1:59.41Y), the Boys 8&U 25 Free (18.83Y) and the Boys 8&U 25 Backstroke (23.86Y). He also took 5th place in boys, 8&U 50 Backstroke (:50.48) and 7th place in boys 8&U, 25 Breaststroke (:29.55Y) and the Boys 8&U 50 Free (44.84Y). Other points earned by Olive Akins (9)  who took 5th place in the Girls 10&U 200 Free (3:29Y), 8th place in the Girls 9-10 50 Breaststroke (51.64Y) and 12th place in the Girls 9-10 50 Fly (59.02Y).

11 & Over swam timed finals on Sunday afternoon accumulating more points on both the girls and boys teams. Anneliese Ramirez(12) took 7th place in the Girls 11&O 200 Free (3:00.49Y). Bella Rake taking 11th place in the Girls 11-12 50 Breaststroke (44.83).  The 11 & over boys finished strong with Gunnison Hartley placing 1st in the Boys 11-12 50 Fly (32.97Y) and the Boys 11&O 500 Free (6:03.99Y) and 2nd in the Boys 11-12 200 Free (2:17.78Y).

Wren Hartley qualified for 4 state events the girls 8&U 100 Free, 50 Free, 25 Breaststroke and 50 Backstroke. Everett Ramirez qualified for the Boys 8&U 50 Backstroke. Barrett Berg qualified in the Boys 12 200 Free and Gunnison Hartley qualified for the Boys 12 500 Free.
