Day 3 Report from YMCA Nationals

Today prelims started the same way they did yesterday with Emma and Samara swimming great backstroke races. Emma swam her first 56 ever going 56.9 qualifying in for the B final in16th place. Samara swam 57.2 placing 22nd, qualifying for the C final. On the boys side Drew swam the 100 back, going 52.1, placing 47th .

Next up were the 400 IM races. Ethan in his first ever YMCA Short Course Nationals race went 4:19, placing 72nd. Addy went a 4:29 to qualify for the C final in 17th place.

The last individual race of the morning was the 200 free. Elise and Etta swam next to each other…and tied, both going 1:54.4. Etta’s time qualified her for the D final, which is reserved for 15 and under swimmers. A few heats later, Kiersten swam a best time of 1:50.8, placing 4th for the prelim session and qualifying for the Championship (or A) final. Sebastian finished off our morning individual swims with a best time of 1:43.1 placing 45th.

The 200 free relay concluded the morning’s competition. The boys (Tanner, Drew, Braden, and Sebastian) set a new team record, going 1:27.1, placing 37th. The girls (Samara, Kiersten, Addy, and Rylie) swam a 1:36.8 to qualify in 15th place for the B final.

Finals started off with a bang. Emma continued her amazing swimming going 56.5 in the 100 back to placing 15th. Then Samara swam another 57.2 in her 100 back to place 23rd.

Next up, Addy dropped a second from her morning 400 IM, going 4:28 to place 20th.

In the 200 free, Kiersten dropped more time swimming 1:50.5 in the Championship finals, placing 7th. Etta then swam a best time with a 1:53.8 to win the 15 & Under finals.

And the last race of the night, the girls 200 free relay, was a fantastic way to finish the finals session. Samara, Kiersten, Addy, and Rylie teamed up to win the B final, dropping almost 2 seconds from this morning, going a 1:34.9, demolishing the team record by 1.7 seconds. In addition to the relay record, Samara led off the relay with a new team record in the 50 free of 23.74.

Tomorrow’s races are 500 free (Elise, Etta, Kiersten, Sebastian), 200 IM (Addy), 50 free (Etta, Rylie, Samara, Drew) and the 400-medley relay for both the girls and the boys.
