Day 4 Report from YMCA National Championships

A day of records

The day started out with Sebastian dropping 4 seconds in his 500 free to set a new OSHY record of 4:40.29, placing 27th after being seeded 61st. Elise swam 5:09 in her race, her best this season, improving her placing from 52nd to finish 37th. Etta then swam 5:11 to make it into the D final, for 15 & Under swimmers. Kiersten’s 500 was a 5:04 to get her into the C final.

Next up Addy swam a great 200 IM, going 2:07.2 to qualify for the C final.

Etta was our first 50 free swimmer, going 25.0, followed by Rylie with a 24.6, and our final swim on the girls side was Samara with a 23.8. On the boys side, Drew swam a best time of 20.8. Samara and Drew both qualified for the C final. Drew’s 50 was a new OSHY record.

The last event of the morning was the 400 medley relay. Emma, Etta, Addy, Kiersten improved on our season best going 3:56 to place 20th. The boys, Drew, Tanner, Sebastian, and Braden had the swim of the morning  going 3:26 to cut 3 seconds off of the team record that they set two weeks ago and matched the 20th place of the girls team. Drew also set a new team record leading off the relay with a 50.8 100 back.

…and as good as the morning was the night was even better.

Kiersten got things started by dominating the C final with a 4:56 500, cutting over 2 seconds off the team record.

Etta followed up with a 5:09 500, moving up 2 places to finish 30th.

Next up Addy continued dropping time going 2:06.5 in the 200 IM to place 19th.

And finishing up the night Samara and Drew were fantastic in the 50 free. Samara went 23.73 to improve on the team record that she set last night leading off the 200 free relay, placing 18th. Drew had the last swim of the night, going 20.69, to improve on his team record from this morning, placing 19th.

Tomorrow is the last day of the YMCA National Championships. The day starts with the 100 free (Elise, Samara, Etta), followed by the 200 fly (Addy, Sebastian), the 100 breast (Tanner, Drew), 400 free relay (girls and boys), and the 1650 free (Kiersten).

7 sessions into the meet, it has been an amazing competition. We are looking forward to a fantastic last day.
