USA SWIMMING SAFE SPORT PROGRAM

COM Aquatics is committed to providing a safe, positive, and respectful environment for all members, with athlete well-being as our top priority.
COM adheres to USA Swimming Safe Sport policies and follows the U.S. Center for SafeSport Code, which defines prohibited conduct, reporting requirements, and the process for addressing abuse and misconduct within the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement.
The current SafeSport Code is effective January 1, 2026 and applies to all participants.

COM has implemented the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP) as required by the U.S. Center for SafeSport and USA Swimming.

USA Swimming is committed to fostering a fun, healthy, and safe environment for all of its members. To support this commitment, USA Swimming has established a Code of Conduct, reporting structure, education, and resources designed to protect athletes and promote a culture of respect.

Education & Prevention

First Line of Defense
Background checks and pre-employment screening are critical tools in selecting qualified staff and volunteers. All COM coaches, officials, and volunteers must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check in order to become non-athlete members of USA Swimming. In addition, USA Swimming clubs are required to complete three pre-employment screening steps for all new employees.

Parent Education
USA Swimming offers free Safe Sport education for parents of member athletes. Parents play a critical role in protecting athletes from abuse. The training covers how offenders operate, how to recognize and respond to boundary violations, common myths and facts about child sexual abuse, and USA Swimming’s Athlete Protection Policies and Procedures. Safe Sport for Swim Parents”
