SOUTHWEST AQUA SPORTS SWIM CLUB (SWAS)
             PARENT VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

In order to achieve a more equitable distribution of the volunteer hours required to run our organization, SWAS has put in place a requirement for our families to contribute a minimum number of volunteer hour(s) each year.

We are a non-profit program with professional coaches and unpaid parent volunteers. Your monthly team dues go toward paying coaches’ salaries and monthly pool rental. If we were to pay for team tasks presently done by our hardworking volunteers, your dues would increase considerably.

The time volunteered by our families is essential to the continued success of our program. Consequently, SWAS requires each family to volunteer their time to the team or pay a fine of $125. SWAS’s goal is not to profit monetarily from the Parent Volunteer Program, but to increase the level of volunteer participation (primarily at our home, Pete Ragus, meets).

The goals of the Parent Volunteer Program are threefold:

1. To provide 2-3 timers at meets (home and away) to be able to start on time, and do our part to contribute since we do not hold meets at our home pool.

2. To document and equalize the volunteer time donated by our families.

3. To support SWAS’s efforts to keep monthly dues as low as possible.

SWAS Swim Club Parent Volunteer Program

Our program will consist of four main volunteer responsibilities. Each responsibility is important to help our club succeed. Each family is responsible to give/volunteer AT LEAST ONE HOUR a year, regardless if your swimmer is active or not. If you are on our roster, and it has not been mentioned otherwise to Coach Bradley, you will be required to volunteer ONE hour of service, or pay the fine. It will be the responsibility of the President to keep track of the hours obtained by each family.

1. Officials: responsible for officiating at home (Pete Ragus) meets. Officials may also officiate at out-of-town meets.

2. Timers: responsible for staffing timers for 2-3 lanes per session.

3. Christmas Party/Awards Ceremony: helping with setup, tear down, donating food and/or money for the event.

4. Swim-A-Thon: responsible for helping keep track of swimmer’s laps and check in

·      The program/season runs from September 1st through August 31st of each year.

·      All families are required to participate, even if none of the swimmers in the family are competitive in meets OR if your swimmer(s) is/are Inactive.

·      All families are responsible for a ONE HOUR of volunteer service per year. Although greatly appreciated, hours earned beyond the required amount will not be carried over to the next year.

·      Hours can be earned at all home (Pete Ragus) meets by signing up online through a SignUp Genius.

Qualified Volunteer Activities:

This list is not all–inclusive but is intended to represent qualified activities. SWAS recommends that you plan how you will fulfill your obligation in advance to avoid a last-minute rush. Keep in mind, Lubbock Swim Club (Pete Ragus) typically only hosts 3-5 meets per year.

·      Timing at home (Pete Ragus) meets.

·      Officiating at home (Pete Ragus) meets, or out of town meets.

·      Yearly fundraiser (Late summer — Late July/Early August)

·      Parties and/or Awards Ceremony

Ineligible Volunteer Activities:

·      Attending meets without volunteering

·      Attending parent meetings, ceremonies or other team functions

·      Carpooling

·      Time spent soliciting donations or orders for fundraisers

We are looking forward to watching SWAS emerge as a premier, competitive swim team with quality parent members.
