Flying Fish Arizona Swim Team (FAST) is the largest swim team in Southern Arizona. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation with a competitive swim team (ages 6-19), recreational summer swim team, swim lessons, and masters (Adult) swim program. We are based out of the Oro Valley Aquatic Center and usually host six swim meets per year. Each meet brings 300-700 swimmers and their families from all over the state to the Tucson area. FAST offers different levels of sponsorship to local businesses who could benefit from exposure to this community. We take pride in being a nationally recognized aquatics club that also offers recreational and fitness programming. Your support of FAST allows us to provide affordable swimming programs to all levels.

 Our Swimmers:

• 214 athletes (19 and under) swam competitively for FAST last year
• 289 kids learned to swim through our lessons program during the past year
• FAST provides scholarships to swimmers whose families are unable to afford fees
• FAST increased travel fund appropriations to national level competitors
• We had three Junior National Qualifiers during the 2022-2023 season
• Last year FAST finished 258th in the country on USA Swimming’s Virtual Club Championship out of 2, 274 teams, 6th in the state, and 1st in Tucson

Our Head Coaches:

Head Senior Coach Rick Laing

• 30 years of experience, from novice to Olympic level
• Competed and coached in New Zealand at the national level
• Physical therapist with expertise in developing good technique and preventing shoulder injury
•  Head coach at Tucson’s El Dorado and Ford Aquatics
• Coached Tucson swimmers to Olympic trials, multiple state titles, high point trophies, and top ten national rankings

Head Age Group Coach Matt Brauer

• 15 years of experience with FAST
• 2020 and 2023 Arizona Age Group Coach of the Year
• Specializes in training middle school-aged swimmers
• Coached numerous swimmers to state titles and high point trophies
• Spearheaded a new program at FAST focusing on mental well-being and resilience of our athletes

Our professional coaching team provides top notch swimming instruction, good sportsmanship, self-discipline, self-confidence, and responsibility – in and out of the pool. However, we cannot continue to keep this high-quality program accessible to everyone without your support. It is for this reason we are asking for your help.
