General Information About The Age Group Meet

The Western Zone Age Group Championship meet is a four day, long course meet for approximately 700 athletes ages 14 and under, from 14 western states. It’s held in the first part of August. Athletes compete on one of 17 “all-star” teams from their LSC. Athletes, coaches, officials, team support personnel, families of swimmers, spectators, meet volunteers, zone and national swimming leadership attend a variety of meet related activities. Many aspects of the meet are mandated by Western Zone Policies and Procedures. Others are stipulated in the contract between the meet host and USA Swimming. The meet is also rich in tradition.

Meet Related Activities:

  • Championship Meet:  Four days of competition in prelims/finals format. Prelim sessions are held each morning. Then, top qualifiers and relays compete in afternoon/evening finals.
  • General Meeting: Held the day before the meet begins. Coaches, officials and meet organizers assemble to disburse information and finalize meet parameters.
  • Zone Dinner Social and Forum: Banquet for team and zone leadership held the second night of competition after finals. Includes a business meeting component.
  • Officials Social: Social for officials working the meet.  Usually held the third night of competition after finals.
  • Athlete Social:  A fun activity  for all athletes held after the last session of the meet.

General Information About the Senior Meet

The Western Zone Senior Championship meet is a five day, long course meet for approximately 1300 high-school age athletes, from 14 western states. It’s held in the first part of August. Prelims occur in multiple pools with competitors coming together in one pool for Finals. Teams with qualifying athletes come from within 17 Western Zone LSCs. Athletes, coaches, officials, team support personnel, families of swimmers, spectators, meet volunteers, zone and national swimming leadership attend the meet and other related activities. Some aspects of the meet are mandated by Western Zone Policies and Procedures. Others are stipulated in the contract between the meet host and USA Swimming. This successful meet has a tradition of being the largest (by far) and fastest of the four USA Swimming Senior Zone Championship meets.

  • Championship Meet:  Five days of competition in prelims/finals format. Prelim sessions are held each morning in multiple pools. Then, top qualifiers and relays compete in one pool during the afternoon/evening Finals.
  • General Meeting: Held the morning of the first day of competition. Coaches, officials and meet organizers assemble to disburse information and finalize meet parameters.
