For New Applicants:
The certification process requires completion of several steps in any order*:
1) Attend a Stroke and Turn clinic presented by a certified USA Swimming trainer. These clinics are given throughout the year at various locations in the region. There is no cost to attend the clinic and there is no minimum number of attendees. See the “upcoming clinics” tab on the official’s website. Class is usually about 2 hours long.

2) Take the Stroke & Turn and the Timers online test at usaswimming.org. An applicant must create their own User ID and password on the USA Swimming web site in order to take the tests. If you don’t have an account yet, you may create one HERE. The results of the test are sent to the officials’ chair. The test is open book based on the technical rules in the USA Swimming rule book.

3) Register with New England Swimming. A rule book will be sent to you by USA Swimming. There is a 60 day Apprentice registration form.
