Letter from the Coach February 1st, 2026
Sailfish Swim Team,
We had 15 individual point scorers, strong and spirited relay performances, and six swimmers who won individual events—a clear sign of the talent, focus, and determination within this group. Even more exciting than the results themselves is the fact that we still have room to grow. We saw disciplined, fast racing, and we also identified areas where sharpening technique and refining race strategy will make us even faster. As we enter the championship phase of the season, we’ll continue to train with purpose and intent, building on this momentum as we look ahead to WFSL Championships next month.
Looking forward, in less than a week we’ll head to The Master’s School for a dual meet against New Wave Aquatics. Please commit via SportsEngine as soon as possible. If you’re having any trouble, let me know at practice tomorrow or Tuesday, February 3rd, so we can finalize event entries.
In two weeks, on February 13, we will also send a team to Washington, DC to compete in the Annual Black History Meet. If you plan to attend and do not yet have travel or hotel arrangements, please connect with me this week so we can discuss logistics.
With our recent success, it’s likely that our number of New York State YMCA Championship qualifiers has grown significantly. I’ve entered all Rye meet results into SportsEngine and am currently finishing Harrison. Once complete, I’ll generate a report confirming who has qualified for the State Championships, which will be held March 20–22 at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in Long Island. Swimmers who know their times can also check eligibility directly on the NYS YMCA SWIMMING COMMISSION WEBSITE. If your swimmer made states, feel free to announce on the CHAT. NOTE-your swimmer’s age as of December 1st, 2025 is how their age for States. For example, if your swimmer was born December 1st 2017, they are considered 8 years old for NYS YMCA competitions, until March 23rd, 2026. Email me at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our parent volunteers, especially those who timed at the meet. We truly cannot operate without your support. I will be reviewing the parent committee interest form soon; if you’d still like to get involved, please submit the form by mid-week as we move forward with forming the committee. CLICK HERE!
I’m proud of this team and excited for what’s ahead. Let’s get back to work!
