SAILFISH GROUP DESCRIPTIONS

Tech Team
For swimmers ages 6-9, this group will introduce the basic elements of competitive swimming throughout the season. Swimmers joining this group need to be able to swim 25 yards of Freestyle with side breathing, backstroke, and some knowledge of breaststroke. Practice sessions will center around teaching proper stroke mechanics of all four strokes, good streamline push-offs and dives, and introducing the fundamentals of becoming a competitive swimmer. The coaching staff will deliver instructions in the water and from the deck. The goal of the Tech Team is to promote a fun, family-friendly environment so that our younger swimmers learn to love swimming.
Tech Team Bronze
For swimmers ages 10-14, this group will introduce the basic elements of competitive swimming throughout the season. Swimmers joining this group need to be able to swim 25 yards of Freestyle with side breathing, backstroke, and some knowledge of Breaststroke. Practice sessions will center on teaching proper stroke mechanics for all four strokes, effective streamlining during push-offs and dives, and introducing the fundamentals of becoming a competitive swimmer. The coaching staff will deliver instructions in the water and from the deck. The goal of the Tech Bronze Team is to promote a fun, family-friendly environment so that our younger swimmers learn to love swimming.
Age Group Silver Team
The Age Group Silver team is for swimmers aged 8-11 who can swim 50 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly; swim a 100 individual medley and 100 freestyle. The practices for Silver include instruction in and out of the water, with goals to develop all four competitive strokes. Practices will focus on stroke technique, endurance, and preparation for swim meets. The goals are to promote a fun, family-friendly environment so that our swimmers learn to love swimming and experience success and progress throughout the season.
Age Group Gold 1
This group is for swimmers ages 10 and over who can swim all four strokes, perform flip turns, and a racing dive, but still need more instruction and practice in stroke mechanics to advance as competitive swimmers. Age Group Gold swimmers can swim 100 yards of Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and 100 Individual Medley, and can swim one event within the state meet qualifying times. This program is structured to challenge swimmers with advanced swimming drills. The primary objective of this group is to refine and master stroke mechanics while improving speed and endurance.
Dryland exercises will be done with the senior group twice weekly to build strength and power that will translate into the pool during practice sessions and race days. Age Group Gold practices four days a week.
Age Group Gold 2
A step up from Gold 1, Age Group Gold swimmers can swim 100 yards of Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and 100 Individual Medley, and can swim one event within the state meet qualifying times. This program is structured to challenge swimmers with advanced swimming drills. The primary objective of this group is to refine and master stroke mechanics while improving speed and endurance.

Senior Team
The Senior team is for children aged 11 and over who have mastered all four strokes, meet three of the four criteria below, and swim 2-3 events within the state meet qualifying times. These swimmers are working on interval, aerobic, and distance training. As the season progresses, we set increasingly challenging practice and competition goals to help our swimmers improve their skills and performance. Swimmers in this group generally qualify for the annual state meet in 2-3 events. Dryland exercises will be incorporated twice a week.
