VABR RIPTIDES COACHING STAFF
Ned joined the Riptides in August 2022, as
the Association Director of Competative Swimming. Ned
has a long history of teaching children and adults to swim fast
while focusing on their development as young men and
women.
Ned’s
swimming career began in Columbus, Ohio when his older sister
became a star swimmer and wanted to follow in her footsteps. It
turned out that Ned was “pretty good”, so he was
invited to continue his swimming career at Louisiana State
University. After LSU, Ned decided to stay in the swimming world
and became a graduate assistant at Ohio University. From there, Ned
became the head men’s and women’s swim coach at Central
Connecticut State University for four years before heading South to
become the head coach at William and Mary.
In
1998 Ned became the Head Coach at Virginia Tech where he amassed 6
Conference Coach of the Year awards, coached 11 international
national champions and 2 Olympic athletes, and led his team to win
the 2014 ACC team title. He was
also a national team coach for USA Swimming after Robert Owen
finish sixth at the 2016 Olympic Trials.
