About the Wellington Sharks Swim Team, Flower
Mound, Texas
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to provide an awesome and memorable summer swim team
experience for Wellington of Flower Mound residents. We teach kids
to become better competitive swimmers, develop young adults into
mature coaches and team leaders, and build a spirit of community
and volunteerism with Wellington parents and
families.
ABOUT THE SHARKS
The Sharks were established in 1996 beginning with just 30
swimmers. Our team every year now has 240 swimmers and includes 150
Wellington families.
In 2016 we are excited to
be joining a new swim league called Swim North Texas, a summer swim league
consisting mostly of teams representing country clubs and other
exceptional residential communities. A list of the key differences
between DASA and SNT can be found
here.
Swimmers ranging in age
from 4 to 17 are welcome to join. Wellington of Flower Mound
residency is required.
Wellington swimmers who
want to learn to coach and lead can apply to become Junior Coaches,
Assistant Coaches, and Age Group Leaders. All twenty-four of these
coaching positions are filled with current and former Sharks and
Wellington residents.
COMPETITIVE
RESULTS
Our Wellington Sharks are
the eight-time defending champions of DASA's largest and
most-competitive division, and we won the All-Star meet all eight
years. In 2008 we defeated
the Canyon Creek Country Club Barracudas who previously were DASA
champions 11 straight years. We have held this title ever
since.
Dozens of Wellington
Shark swimmers currently hold individual and relay team DASA
records.
IMPACT ON THE
COMMUNITY
Many hundreds of
Wellington kids since 1996 have learned to work hard, compete,
become part of a team, and enjoy the benefits of competitive
swimming. Their summer is filled with exercise, teamwork, and
competition, not just TV and video games.
Many of Flower Mound's
most competitive high school swimmers and more than twenty college
swimmers began their inspired athletic careers with the Wellington
Sharks.
One hundred percent of
our Sharks families volunteer for a role in helping to manage the
team and run our swim meets. Life-long friendships among Wellington
residents and families are formed on the pool deck in support of
our children and the Sharks.
We have introduced
through our competitions many families from around the metroplex to
Wellington of Flower Mound. They have seen the professionalism of
our coaches, the sportsmanship of our swimmers, and the spirit of
our huge volunteer organization.
Through the years, many
residents have indicated the importance of the Sharks to their
satisfaction living at Wellington of Flower Mound. We hear many
comments like these:
"Our friends have talked
so much about the good times they have with the Sharks Swim Team
that we decided to move here instead of (some other place)."
"I wish my old community had something like the Sharks Swim Team
when my kids were younger."
"I would have moved out
of Wellington several years ago were it not for our love of the
Sharks."
Coach Matt Murdock
returns to the Sharks as our Head Coach. Matt has coached
competitive swimming for 15+ years.
“I am very excited to have the opportunity to lead the Sharks
this year. We have a fantastic group of athletes who love to
train hard and race harder. With the help of our swimmers, I
hope we can add to the Sharks legacy.”
During the school year Coach Murdock is the Assistant
Principal at Forestwood Middle School here in Flower
Mound!
