JEN KOSCHMANN

Head Coach & Sr Elite Team Lead Coach | [email protected]

Jen joined Riptide as Head Coach in fall 2018. Her leadership, enthusiasm and expertise have been essential to the growth and success of the team, and she looks forward to helping more student-athletes learn to love the sport and achieve their goals. She has coached for Team Colorado and is serving a second team on the CSI Board of Directors as Coaches Representative.  She was awarded Colorado Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year at the end of 2024. In her tenure with Riptide, the team has gone from not scoring a single point to placing 4th overall at State (1st in the Medium Sized Teams division for the last 3 AG State Championships Meets)

Jen was a High School All-American, MN High School State Champion, Captain of the Swim and Synchro Teams, NCAA Division 1 Collegiate Scholarship Swimmer for UW-Madison Badgers, and Senior National Qualifier in the 100/200 Back. After college, she worked as an engineer for Intel Corp and Dell Computers for a combined 6 years. Since moving to Colorado, Jen raced as an Amateur Elite Triathlete and qualified for 70.3 World Championships. 

She holds levels 1-3 ASCA (America's Swim Coaches Association) and USA Swimming Certifications, and has 15 years experience coaching age group, summer league, and masters level swimmers. Jen served as Head Coach of the Rock Creek Flyers from 2014-2019 where she led the team to improve from 5th to 2nd place in the Boulder Valley Summer Swim League.  She helped coach the Fairview High School Knights Women's Swim Team for three seasons, during all of which the team was either 5A State Champion or Runner Up.  

 


 

 

 

 

JONATHAN BURGESS

Head Age Group & Silver Team Lead Coach | [email protected]

Jonathan was a highschool All American, Illinois High School state record holder, NCAA Division 1 Collegiate Scholarship Swimmer for Indiana University Bloomington specializing in Butterfly and sprint Freestyle.  Jonathan was awarded "Age Group Coaching Staff of the Year" by Colorado Swimming in 2024.  He has been selected to coach for Team Colorado multiple times, and has coached 5 swimmers to break Colorado State Records. 

Through 15 years of coaching, Jonathan has served as a coach for the Front Range Barracudas, Elevation Athletics, Fairview Boys High School, and Arapahoe YMCA. He has helped several athletes on their journey to become State Champions, High School State Finalists, and Collegiate Scholarship Athletes. Jonathan has also taught hundreds of young swimmers how to swim through his swim school H2o Swimming. He is a compassionate, inspirational, technique focused coach and has experience coaching athletes from beginner to elite. He enjoys helping young people flourish through the sport of swimming and is available to teach lessons here at CAC.


ANNE SHAWHAN

Gold Team Lead Coach | [email protected]

With more than two decades of experience as a coach, Shawhan, who is ASCA Level 5 certified, has instructed swimmers at every level and to a wide range of age groups. Her coaching path began at her alma mater, Florida State University, as an assistant coach at the University 2001-2004 and for Club Seminole Tallahassee for three seasons. She then moved on to Louisiana State University as assistant coach from 2004-08.

 

In 2015, she moved to Colorado where she began a run of coaching success starting with the Greenwood Tiger Sharks as a lead-age group coach. In a move to Boulder, CO Coach Shawhan began her tenure as head coach of the University of Colorado's club program 2016-2021.  During this time she also managed and served as an elite coach of the SwimLabs in the CU Sports Performance Center, coaching masters with Boulder Aquatics Masters and Colorado Athletic Club.  In 2018 she began her time coaching for the Riptide Swim Team. She returned to Florida in 2022 to be the Director of Athlete Development for the Fast Falcons in Ocala, Fl. In 2023 Coach Shawhan made her return to Colorado and was appointed as Head Coach of Loveland Swim Club.

 

Shawhan’s goals are to develop the club at all levels from the youngest age groups to the senior level, as well as to train and mentor the coaching staff. Her range of experiences have helped her develop a philosophy of how to help swimmers enjoy reaching their goals.

 

My personal philosophy blends perfectly with the mission, vision and values of Riptide Swim Team.  It is my mission to provide a safe, positive and dynamic culture that promotes inclusivity and celebrates participation and excellence through sport. By fostering growth through long term athlete development, it is my goal to assist Coach Koschmann and her coaching staff in continuing to build programming for all levels from learn to swim to high performance competitive swimming.

 

As a competitive swimmer, she was an NCAA All-American at Florida State and was the Seminoles’ MVP for the 1996-97 and 1998-99 seasons. She was named All-ACC each of her four seasons as she earned her degree in sport management. A native Canadian, she was a National medalist and swam in the Canadian Olympic Trials in both 1992 and 1996, reaching the finals.


DANIELLE ALLEN 

Bronze Team Lead Coach | [email protected]

Coach Danielle has been swimming since the age of six. She swam year-round for the Brighton Bullfrogs and for Brighton High School as she got older. A four-year varsity letterman, Danielle specialized inthe 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 200 IM. She was a member of the

"A" 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. At the age of 14, she was  invited to train at Stanford, Texas University and Air Force Academy,  the latter at which she attended training camp. At age 16, she became  certified as a coach, beginning her coaching journey assisting with
the Brighton Bullfrog's 11-12 group. She married out of high school  and became a mama of 4 children: Elijah, Elianna, Elisha and Ezekiel.  Athletics is a huge part of who they are as a family. They are active  members of their community and founders of The Allen Family Sack Lunch  Program.
 
Coach Danielle comes from North Jeffco Swim Team. She started there as  a 10&U Assistant Coach in 2019. She quickly became the Head 8&U coach  for two squads, one pre-competitive and one competitive.   She is a technique specialist with high expectations. She brings a  level of discipline that is needed in young athletes and is passionate  about their success. She trains young swimmers to be serious  competitors and she does so with unconditional love and support.

 

 

 

 

ANDREW FREEMAN

Andrew’s competitive swimming career began in the early 1970’s as an age group swimmer for the Coho Swim Club based out of Deerfield, IL.  While swimming for Highland Park high school he broke both the 50-yard and 100-yard school freestyle records. He was elected captain his senior year. Collegiately, Andrew attended and swam for the University of Denver where he was an eleven-time All- America Swimmer, captain, and assistant coach his final year.  

After graduating college, Andrew continued his athletic career as a master swimmer and triathlete, competing in over 50 triathlons and four Ironman distance events. Andrew is currently a Masters Swim Coach at the Colorado Athletic Club and Age Group Coach for the Riptide Swim Club. He holds a Level I USA Swimming Coach Certification and US Masters Swimming Coach Certification.  He was recently selected by Team CO to coach the Age Group Catch the Spirit Camp. 
 

Andrew resides in Boulder, Colorado with his wife and two daughters.
