What Can I Expect at a Swim Meet?

 

Rise and Shine

 

You can expect to get up nice and EARLY on Swim Meet days!!  Warm ups usually begin around 7:30 am and the day ends after relays around 4-5:00 pm.  

 

Pack Your Bag

 

Swim Meets are fun and tend to be very long so you will need to pack a few things for a successful day:

  • Bathing suit
  • Goggles (extra pair in case they break)
  • Cap
  • Water bottle
  • Towels (one to use on deck; another to use after you shower)
  • Healthy Snacks (milk, fruit, sandwich, cheese, yogurt, etc.)
  • Small Blanket & Mat (to sit on during the day)
  • Highlighter (to highlight your name on the heat sheets)

 

What Will I Be Swimming?

 

Your coach will let you know which events you will be swimming.   Usually, everyone swims in 4 individual events such as “50m Freestyle”, “50m Breaststroke”, “50m Backstroke” etc.  Events are run according to age categories: 6 and under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15 and over.  You are racing against the clock, trying to beat your own time!!!
