Coaches and Staff

Coach Jorge Salinas leads the Gold and Senior groups at SOL Swim Team and brings nearly a decade of coaching experience in aquatics. He also serves as the Head Coach of Otay Ranch High School Aquatics, overseeing the Boys and Girls Water Polo teams and the Swim & Dive program. A San Diego native, Jorge was raised in both San Diego and Tijuana, giving him a bilingual and multicultural perspective that has shaped his approach to coaching. His journey into aquatics began in high school when he overcame a fear of water to join his school’s swim and water polo teams. That challenge sparked a lasting passion for the sports, eventually leading him to compete at Mesa and Southwestern College. Jorge began coaching at the South Bay YMCA, where he was named Coach of the Year in 2019 during his first year as Head Coach. At SOL, he focuses on building strong fundamentals, athletic discipline, and a supportive team environment. He is currently pursuing a degree in kinesiology and sports medicine to further enhance his coaching knowledge and help athletes grow both in and out of the water.

Dan has a long history and involvement with diving in San Diego County. Dan started diving at the age of 8 and was a competitive diver in age group, Junior Olympics, seniors, and masters diving. His competitive career spanned over thirty years, claiming many championships along the way. He grew up in the South Bay and as a high school diver, for Hilltop High School, he was three time Metro League Diving Champion.
Dan started his coaching career in 1977 serving as Assistant Dive Coach with Chula Vista Aquatics Association. CVAA produced many AAU and U.S. Diving Champions as well as Junior Olympic Champions. After retiring from coaching age group divers, he focused his attention on high school diving. He has spent the last 30 years coaching at the high school level in South Bay. Dan is currently, and has been for 27 years, the Dive Coach at Mar Vista High School. He is very proud of the dive program at Mar Vista as they have consistently produced top divers in the South Bay, many of which have gone on to successful collegiate level diving careers.

Coach Alberto trained in many different sports growing up such as football, boxing, water polo, & volleyball but found himself specializing in jiu jitsu and wrestling. However, swimming stood out to him the most. As self-taught swimmer, his journey to improve as a swimmer was achieved through reading books on stroke mechanics, and technique -- as well as studying several different techniques for all 4 different strokes. Through consistent practice, the hunger for knowledge, and perseverance --he started to compete against many swimmers who had specialized in the sport since a very young age. He swam for 2 years in Community College where he competed in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships and finished in 5th place in the 200 Breaststroke. He is an example of a swimmer that started late and still became proficient and competed well in the sport.
It is his coaching philosophy that anyone can be competitive in any sport, it is only a question of desire and the will to succeed. Swimming as an individual sport teaches athletes to set goals for themselves and seek to achieve them through daily practice. Coach Alberto specializes in the development of swimmers, and strives to make swimming enjoyable for new students, and promote the idea that swimming should be a lifelong sport, whether for competition or as a life skill.
