News Splash July 24
Good afternoon CAJ Parents,
Coach Andrew’s Corner
Let’s get excited Aquajets! The NVAL championship meet is this weekend (7/28-7/30) in Redding. The weather forecast is looking nice, and we have the most Aquajets attending that I have seen at a meet all year long. It has been a tremendous summer season and I am exhilarated to see what our Aquajets can do after training hard these past few months. Be ready to cheer on your teammates and get crazy with our spirit gear. I know the coaches and our board members are going to look amazing on each day.
To help your swimmers perform as best as possible, make sure they are getting a minimum of eight hours of sleep each night (eight hours of sleep, not just eight hours in bed). Our swimmers will also need to spend this week eating well and not missing out on any important nutrients or electrolytes. Raising their carb intake for the week works much better than trying to carb load the night before the meet starts. It takes the body time to prepare and store those sugars. Let’s dial in and help our swimmers race to the best of their ability.
This Friday’s (7/28) all age group (all groups, except masters) practices are canceled. Since, the majority of the coaching staff will be in Redding for NVALs day 1 this Friday (7/28) there will be no practices that day.
We just had an amazing weekend in Elk Grove at the Bill Rose Classic: SNS Long Course Championship! I was blown away with how hard our Aquajets raced, they gave it all they got in every one of their races. There were numerous best times, and I had multiple coaches from other teams come up to me to compliment our swimmers. Fantastic job this weekend Aquajets, you made me proud!
This week on Wednesday (7/26) we will be having a spirit rally/taco and nacho bar dinner from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Denney’s house (check the Team Snap event for the address). We are going to decorate posters, practice cheers, and watch Coach Andrew lose his hair. Even if you can not make the NVALs championship meet, I still encourage you to attend so that you and your swimmer(s) can have fun getting to know other Aquajet families. If you are planning on attending, please RSVP on Team Snap, and in your note for the event put how many people you plan on bringing so that everyone may plan accordingly. There are assignments on the Team Snap event with the different dinner items necessary for our event. Please sign up for an assignment if you are attending the spirit rally. If you are not sure how to sign up for assignments on Team Snap, I can help you learn how to do so.
The Pre-Senior and afternoon Senior practices will end at 6:15pm this Wednesday (7/26) for accommodate for our NVAL spirit rally.
All age group (all groups, except masters) practices are cancelled next week 7/31-8/6. Enjoy your time off, you earned it Aquajets!
Seniors once we return from our week long break we are returning to our Fall-Spring practice schedule from last year (4:30p-5:00p is dryland, 5:00p-7:00p is in the water, all at In Motion). No more morning practices at the PV pool.
A reminder to our Senior group, we are having a cereal practice this Thursday at the PV pool after the in-water portion of our practice. We will start eating around 8:15am, bring your favorite cereal to share! Coach Andrew will bring bowls, utensils, and milk. If your swimmer needs a lactose free type of milk let me know so that I can be prepared.
Be sure to read the Swim-a-Thon email that I sent out yesterday. There is important information in there that you do not want to miss.
Since summer break is ending soon and I know some families might want to discontinue their membership with our team once the school year gets under way, I encourage everyone to read the “Swimmer Account Reminder” section located near the end of the News Splash.
Old Business
Beard and Hair Challenge Best Time Total (as of 7/23): 278 best times total
For the safety of our swimmers please make sure to pick up your swimmer(s) on time after their practice ends.
In order to keep our swimmers safe and to ensure a positive relationship with In Motion Fitness I am asking our Aquajet families to adhere to the following. When swimmers are on deck, they need to follow the pool rules; this includes walking on deck, no horseplay, and no foul language. Aquajets are only to use the lap pool, the outside showers, and the outside bathrooms during their practice time as well as 30 minutes prior to and after their scheduled practice. Aquajets that are 14 years old or younger need to be supervised at all times, if you are unable to supervise your swimmer while waiting for the start of their practice then your swimmer will need to sit at the tables located on the deep side of the lap pool so the coaches can watch them. If you are going to watch the practices, please do so at the tables located on the deep side of the lap pool, which In Motion has reserved for us during our practice times, this helps keep the entire outside pool area organized and helps us work with In Motion better. When picking swimmers up make sure to follow the rules of the road in the parking lot; stop at stop signs, follow the speed limit of 5mph, and do not park in the handicap spaces if you are not approved to do so.
Our themes for the NVAL championship meet have been decided! Our Friday theme will be Greek (togas, etc), Saturday’s theme will be Under the Sea, and Sunday’s theme will be Aquajet pride (CAJ gear, lots of navy and silver).
Attached to this News Splash is a coupon for 30% off a tech suit at Elsmore Swim Shop. The offer is valid through August 4th, I would take advantage of this offer if you are considering getting a tech suit for your swimmer(s).
Team Pictures are in! If you ordered pictures be sure to grab them from me or another coach when you are at practice.
If you are looking for ribbons from our past few meets, they are organized in our file box by last name. Feel free to look for your ribbons or ask a coach for help.
We use an app called TeamSnap in order to improve the ability of our team to communicate with each other, and to make it easier for our members to see upcoming events. I highly recommend you download the app and turn notifications on, so you do not miss any information. If you have not received an invite to our team’s profile on TeamSnap, send me an email and I will work to get an invite to you.
Be sure to check out our Chico Aquajets Facebook and Instagram pages for fun posts and information about the team!

SWIMMER ACCOUNT REMINDER: All swimmer fees are due on the 1st day of each month and are considered late if not received by the 10th. A $10 late fee will be assessed for late payments. Notice of intent to discontinue swimming must be provided to the Chico AquaJets in writing by the 15th of the month before the date of inactivity to cancel monthly fees. Written notice should be provided through the "Contact Us'' button on the CAJ website. Verbal notice to coaches is not sufficient. Any written notice occurring after the 15th of the month before deciding to discontinue will be charged the following month. Any hanging balances left will be billed and payment will be required before any re-registration.
- BE ADVISED: if you discontinue your membership, the $65 registration fee will be reassessed upon re-registration.
- CAJ WEBSITE: All members must double-check your Team Unify member account to ensure that your e-mail is correct and verified. We also need you to verify your SMS number, and make sure you use dashes. This will ensure you receive ALL of our communications.
- REMINDER FROM IN MOTION: If families discontinue their In Motion gym membership it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to notify In Motion that the swimmer is remaining an Aquajet swimmer. We’d also appreciate notification to the team through the “contact us” button so that our bookkeeper and membership coordinators are aware of your IMF membership status. This will assist in smooth entry to the club as well as accurate billing information for CAJ. Thanks!
Coach Andrew
