COACH’S CORNER

I am challenging the Aquajets to push themselves this summer and see how much they can progress. In past summers if swimmers could get enough best times, then I would dye my beard blue (check out our Instagram for pictures). This summer, to be in line with our Despicable Me NVAL theme, if the Aquajets can achieve 450 or more official best times before NVALs, then I will get a bowl cut to go with my Vector costume. After only one meet, the Aquajets have achieved 183 best times. I was blown away and am very proud of how they raced, and the sportsmanship they showed at our CAJ Winzenz Family Summer Splash meet this past weekend.

Team Pictures are this week on Thursday June 19 7:00am-9:00am at the PV pool. We will do a whole team picture and there will also be the opportunity for individual pictures as well. Wear white or navy Aquajet shirts please. You can pick up a picture packet at practice; there will also be picture packets available on the day of.

The 50m pool in Red Bluff is open. On Friday mornings, until the Bill Rose Classic, since the PV pool is closed due to cleaning, I will offer a long course practice for Senior and Pre-Senior swimmers up in Red Bluff at the McGlynn Pool (119 Sycamore St). The practice will be 7:30am-9:30am, and there will be a $2 admission fee per swimmer. To make sure I do not drive to Red Bluff and have no swimmers there, I will ask each week for families to tell me if they will be at that week’s long course practice. With that in mind, reply to this email if your Pre-Senior or Senior swimmer(s) want to commit to attending this week’s long course practice on 6/20.

Next week on Monday 6/23 we are having a Panda Express fundraiser, 9:30am-11:00pm. Come support your team by getting some Panda Express! For the team to get a portion of the proceeds; when ordering in-person, show the fundraising flyer (located at its section of the Team Events on our website, and attached to this news splash) or, when ordering online, use the code 3841049 in the fundraiser code box.

The Gridley Gator AGO meet is open for signups! Signups close on Wednesday 6/25 at 11:59pm or when all spots are filled. This is an excellent meet for new families to get more meet experience in, and to help fill the two meet requirement for NVALs. This meet has been a lot of fun in the past, Coach Andrew used to race at this meet way back in the day. OME Link

The Team Hotel for NVALs is the Towneplace Suites in Redding. We have hotel rooms blocked off with a special rate until the end of June. The rooms are on a first come first serve basis, and since I know every single Aquajet is planning on racing at NVALs I am sure the spots will fill up before then. Make your reservation as soon as possible so you can get one of the rooms, or at the very least so you don’t miss the special rate that stops after June. Call to make your reservation so you can let them know you are with the Chico Aquajets. Their number is (530) 223-0690. 

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • Make sure your swimmer is USA Swimming registered (the link can be found in the “USA Swim Registration” section of the news splash)
  • Make sure your swimmer brings a water bottle to every practice
