Andrew Hasek

Good afternoon Aquajets,

An absolutely great weekend of racing from the Aquajets this most recent weekend! Heidi and Carlos were impressed with how well the kids did in Orland. Plenty of fun was had and a lot of best times were swam!

Our Bill Rose swimmers truly exemplified small but mighty. We only had a handful of swimmers, but they were excellent beyond my expectations. Maia dropped chunks of time in multiple events and got a new A time. Claire made finals in all of her events and got some best times as well, including a three second drop in her 100m Back after pacing and splitting it fantastic. Sarah got a two new A times and is really close to some SWAGR Cuts. Marina got multiple top three finishes and a new CA/NV Speedo Sectionals cut! Holden became a National Level Swimmer by obtaining multiple first time Futures cuts and even got his first Junior Winter Nationals cut, making him the Aquajets first Junior National level swimmer in 13 years!!!

COACH’S CORNER

I challenged the Aquajets to push themselves this summer and see how much they can progress. In past summers if swimmers could get enough best times, then I would dye my beard blue (check out our Instagram for pictures). This summer, to be in line with our Despicable Me NVAL theme, if the Aquajets achieved 450 or more official best times before NVALs, then I would get a bowl cut to go with my Vector costume. They met the challenge so I will be rocking a new haircut at NVALs this year. Way to go Aquajets!

This year the City of Redding is charging a $5 spectator fee for NVALs. Athletes, coaches, officials, and other volunteers (such as timers) get free entry. All other spectators must pay $5 for the weekend to enter the pool facility.

The NVAL Poster Decorating Potluck is this Wednesday 7/23 at 6:00pm. This event has historically been a lot of fun and really helps build that last burst of team spirit going into NVALs. The Denney’s have very graciously offered to host this event. There will be a pool available so bring your suits! Here is a link to the signup genius for the even: Poster Decorating Potluck Signup Genius. Also, please RSVP on the event’s Team Snap page and leave a note of how many people you will bring to the potluck to make it easier to plan how much food and decorations to have available.

There will be no Senior or Pre-Senior afternoon practice this Wednesday 7/23. This is to accommodate for our NVAL Poster Decorating Potluck, go enjoy your evening celebrating that team spirit with your fellow Aquajets!

This week on Thursday will be the annual Cereal Practice for the Seniors. We will conclude their practice by sitting down and eating cereal together. Swimmers should bring utensils and their favorite cereal to share. I will be providing the milk. If your Senior swimmer would like to request a particular kind of milk, feel free to send me a message with their request.

There are no practices Friday 7/25 through Fri 8/1. After working hard for months this is everyone’s opportunity to rest and recover so we are ready to dial in for the Fall season. Enjoy the time off Aquajets!

Our annual Swim-a-thon is next week on Saturday 8/2 at the PV Pool 8:00am-10:00am. This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, swimmers will have two hours to swim as many laps as possible. If you missed the swim-a-thon email that was sent out last Thursday (7/17) let me know so I can forward it to you.

The Worlds Aquatic Championship (commonly known as Worlds) is underway! The first day of competitive swim events takes place this Saturday evening (7/26) and goes until Sunday August 3rd. Worlds is the meet of the summer where the best swimmers in the world compete against each other. If you want to see some of the best swimming on the planet check it out.
