Stony Plain Sharks Swim Club Code of Conduct
The Stony Plain Sharks Swim Club enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding illegal use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and any form of abusive behavior, including but not limited to yelling, obscene, or offensive language. Any violation will lead to immediate expulsion from the Club, without a refund of registration fees, and the swimmer will be required to return any Club-provided gear.
As a representative of the Stony Plain Sharks Swim Club, you carry the pride of being associated with one of Alberta’s largest swim clubs. This Code of Conduct is in place to ensure that every swimmer, parent, and coach upholds the Club's reputation both during competitions and beyond—at practices, events, and meetings.
Code of Conduct for Parents, Swimmers, and Coaches:
- Act honorably – Represent the Club, your family, and yourself with pride.
- Show respect and professionalism – Dress appropriately, behave morally, and use acceptable language.
- Be respectful to others – Respect and cooperate with officials, coaches, teammates, competitors, pool staff and volunteers.
- Refrain from substances – Do not use alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, or performance-enhancing substances.
- Follow rules – Adhere to all Alberta Summer Swimming Association (ASSA), team, meet, and facility rules at all times.
The Stony Plain Sharks Swim Club maintains a zero-tolerance policy for illegal or abusive behavior, such as yelling, and the use of obscene or offensive language. Any breach will result in immediate expulsion from the Club, with no refund of registration fees.
Athletes are specifically responsible for the following:
- Be a leader: Display a positive and respectful attitude at all times, encourage and support teammates, and demonstrate sportsmanship and leadership.
- Be a team player: Participate in relays, build friendships, enjoy competing, and support teammates by cheering them on. Always represent the Club in the team uniform.
- Be dedicated to excellence: Strive to always do your best, work hard, and improve your skills by attempting new strokes or participating in different race types.
- Be respectful: Treat others and their property with respect, communicate politely with coaches, teammates, competitors, and officials. Avoid bullying, harassment, or gossip through any medium.
- Be safe: Follow all facility rules, respect lifeguards and officials, and report unsafe behaviors or equipment to coaches or meet officials.
- Be responsible: Take accountability for your actions, come prepared with the necessary equipment, and maintain Club clothing, wearing it at competitions.
- Be on time: Arrive early or on time for practices, warm-ups, and meets. If unable to attend a meet, notify your coach promptly.
- Have fun: Follow the Code of Conduct, meet new friends, and enjoy your time with the Club.

- Respect decisions made by coaches, officials, lifeguards, and other parents or spectators.
- Encourage your child to participate in Club activities, stroke lessons, relays, and to always demonstrate good sportsmanship.
- Support your child’s desire to swim and assist coaches and the Club’s Executive Board in maintaining a positive and productive training and competitive environment.

- Participate in Swim Alberta and ASSA training courses (free of charge).
- Contribute to the Club’s success by taking on a leadership role within the Club Executive during your child’s swimming career.
- Volunteer for Club activities and fundraising initiatives.
- Volunteer or officiate at ASSA swim meets your child attends, as well as Sharks Club swim meets and events.
By adhering to this Code of Conduct, all members of the Stony Plain Sharks Swim Club contribute to fostering a positive, respectful, and supportive environment for swimmers and their families.
