Practices Info
Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible for conditioning and skill advancement. Practice truly does make better swimmers! That said, it is up to the swimmer and their family to choose how many practices they attend per week. We run two evening practice sessions every weekday - first hour and second hour. Practice placement depends on skill, age, and the number of registered swimmers, so please view the following as a guide only. Please have your swimmers arrive in swim gear 10-15 minutes prior to getting into the water ready for warm up exercises.
Evening Practices
- Mid-May to mid-August (one extra week if the swimmer qualifies for Provincial Competition)
- Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays
- First Hour (5 - 6 pm) swimmers are generally younger to approximately 12 years of age
- Second Hour (6 - 7 pm) swimmers are generally older
Morning Practices
- After July long weekend through to the Regional Competition, generally from 7:15 am - 8:00 am three days a week.
- This is open to second hour swimmers and limited others after consultation with coaches.

Weather/Cancellations/Delays
Training at an outdoor pool means that we are subject to weather conditions. Our season start is always projected to be the first Tuesday after the May long weekend, however, this is dependent on weather and facility readiness, at the discretion of the Town of Stony Plain.
We swim rain or shine - the only exception is in the event of thunder and lightning. At the first sighting of lightning or sound of thunder by a lifeguard on deck, the pool is cleared and cannot be reentered until 30 minutes has passed since the last sighting of lightning/sound of thunder. Practice will resume 30 minutes after the last sighting of lightning, as per the Town of Stony Plain's Thunder and Lightning Policy. Please sign up for Team Unify notifications so that in the event of a cancelled practice due to thunder or lightning, you can pick your child up in a timely manner.
