Barracudas Engage in Regional Grassroots Camp Day
November 19, 2023

Before we are able to climb podiums to claim our medals, we need a solid foundation to build forward from.  This is the focus of grassroots development in swimming - exploring, building, learning, and developing fundamental concepts for future success in swimming.  This past Sunday saw the Eastern Region come together in Perth for a day focused on just this - grassroots development for both athletes and coaches.

The Mighty Barracudas were proudly represented by Brian Che, Jordan Crowe, Camryn Miller, and Lucas Ren.  NKB nominated swimmers to participate in the camp based on their work ethic, attitude, coachability, performance, attendance, and the general positivity he is bringing to the pool deck.

Many NKB coaches took leadership roles, with Coach Heather as the camp lead and Coach Aleasha as a lead coach.  Coach Darren, Coach Enmanuel, and Coach Mike were all collaborating coaches on the day’s activities.

The focus of the camp was to create a regional training opportunity that developed best practices for aerobic work with grassroots athletes and also fostered a sense of community with athletes from across the region.  On the coaching side, the camp created an opportunity for novice and veteran coaches in Eastern Ontario Region to collaborate on strategies for fostering a positive culture around hard work in training.  Athletes participated in pool sessions, a hands on nutrition activity and presentation, a mobility session, and other team building activities.
