Andrew Barton, Julie Hewitt Earn Officials Level 4
Wednesday, February 7, 2024

Congratulations to Andrew Barton and Julie Hewitt on earning their Level 4 pin for officiating!

Even if you don’t know them by name, we are certain you will recognize them from the pool.  They have been a regular fixture at meets for years now in the Ottawa/Gatineau area, can regularly be found road tripping around the province to support our entire swimming community, and Julie’s even been known to set up an arts and crafts station at the pool on occasion, too!

They’re dedication to supporting the sport of swimming knows no bounds.  They have spent countless hours learning the sport, taking clinics to learn the officiating roles, and of course volunteering on deck in said roles.  More than that though, they have built relationships across programs that help move our entire swim community forward. They have the patience and flexibility to run the deck with novice swimmers at events like Junior Barracudas mini meets and Friday Night at the Races will also being adept at ensuring formality at championship meets.  They enable swimmers at every level to be successful.  They have the leadership skills to collaborate with clubs running their first meets and building their own officials network.  They freely give their time when they get a late notice call that another official is out sick - even if NKB is not involved.  Without their kind hearts and hard work, our swimmers couldn’t do what they do, and our swim community couldn’t be as successful as it is.

Next time you see them at the pool, be sure to give them a wave, say thank you, and if you have a moment ask them for recommendations on the best roadtrip snacks.  We know they’ll be up for a friendly conversation and likely have you laughing by the time you walk away.
