Paseo Aquatics - News & Notes - Week of April 8, 2013

WESTERN ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS: USA SWIMMING either needs to re-name this event or take a geography lesson, as some of the nation's fastest Age Group swimmers who attended this meet were not only from the West Coast, but Virginia, Georgia, Texas, the Carolinas and Canada as well.

Julia Wolf represented the Paseo Aquatics team at the Morgan Hill Aquatics Complex near San Jose, and ripped off a personal best 25.17 to take 5th overall in the 50 Freestyle race. She also finished 3rd overall in the Preliminaries with a then-personal best 25.22.

In the Championship race, Julia swam stroke for the stroke with the Nation's top 12-Under 50 Freestyler, who broke the Western Zone Championship record with a time of 24.24. Julia also placed 6th in the 50 Backstroke.

An enormous thank you to Coach Mikaela Cowan, who accompanied Julia on the 4-day trip and had her ready for every race. They are both to be congratulated on a hugely successful meet!

JAMES CUSUMANO: Props to this young man, who has been tearing it up in swim practice for the past month. In addition to earning Swimmer of the Month honors, James is now the ONLY member of the Advanced Group who has completed 3 sets of 10 x 100s on the 1:30! It's over, Charlie. Your son is now the fastest swimmer in the household.

RIO MESA LONG COURSE MEET: The Rio Mesa Long Course meet is this Saturday and Sunday, April 13th and 14th. All competing swimmers-- regardless of Group assignment-- are encouraged to attend Friday's practice to prepare for the meet.

BUENA LONG COURSE MEET: The deadline for entering the Buena Long Course Meet is next Wednesday, April 17. Please have all your entries in the mail no later than Monday, April 15th.

PALM SPRINGS FREE WEEKEND MEET: As we mentioned at the last team meeting, Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-26) represents one of SoCal Swimming's Free Weekends, in which swimmers from their assigned Divisions (in our case Coastal) have the opportunity to compete in other SoCal regions. We have selected Palm Springs as our Out-of-Area meet, thinking Memorial Day in the Palm Springs area would be fun and absolutely beautiful weather-wise. Details will be handed out at the team meeting this Wednesday.
