SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA JUNIOR OLYMPICS - UPDATE!

Medals continued to pile up for Paseo Aquatics as the team took home two more GOLD, a SILVER and a BRONZE after yesterday's amazing Finals, capped by the race of the meet between SONALY WINTERMUTE, JULIA WOLF and SoCal's top ranked swimmer in the 200 FREESTYLE Championship.

Among yesterday's highlights:

TAYLOR TOLEDO swam a Personal Best in the 50 BREASTSTROKE Prelim.

NICOLE WHITEHEAD churned out her best time in the 200 FREE Prelim.

WILLIAM CHUNG swam a Personal Best time in the 200 FREE Prelim-- then upped it one more time with an incredible performance in the Championship race, swimming yet another Best Time to place 7th overall.

SONALY WINTERMUTE took home the GOLD in the 100 BUTTERFLY with a Personal Best 58.70 in the Championship Final.

JULIA WOLF carved out a Personal Best in the 200 BACKSTROKE to take 2nd in the Prelim-- then matched that time to take home the BRONZE in the Championship Final.

And in the 200 FREESTYLE Championship Final that brought the house down, JULIA and SONALY-- after placing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Prelims-- took on SoCal's top seeded KATHLEEN SULKEVICH in the Championship Final in front of a huge and packed crowd.

The race saw an amazing battle between the three girls-- each playing with the lead-- right up to the final lap when they battled dead even to the wall. In a complete photo finish, SONALY and KATHLEEN touched at the exact same time with an amazing 1:56.82-- and JULIA claiming "2nd" with a 1:56.83, one one-hundredth of a second behind!

A fantastic day-- with today's Day 3 left to go.

ALL ELITE and ADVANCED SWIMMERS   

The Championship Finals begin at 4PM today-- and the very first race will be the 100 FREESTYLE, with the likelihood of a possible repeat between last night's Championship Finalists.

We would like to encourage ALL swimmers in these groups to attend the Championship Finals at 4PM to cheer their teammates on. This will allow plenty of time for swimmers to return to Paseo or Castaic for the 5:30PM practice.
