Paseo Aquatics - News & Notes - Week of February 3, 2014
SATURDAY MORNING SWIM CLINIC
There will be a SWIM CLINIC this SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8th at 9:00AM. This clinic will be open to ALL GROUP LEVELS and everyone is strongly encouraged to attend.
The Clinic will be conducted by COACH CHRIS and COACH MIKAELA, and will feature some very up-to-date technique drills and swim strategies that will benefit all who attend.
For swimmers currently training at the ADVANCED and ELITE levels-- this clinic is MANDATORY.
CENTRAL CALIFORNIA JUNIOR OLYMPICS
Paseo Aquatics has been officially entered into the CENTRAL CALIFORNIA JUNIOR OLYMPICS to be held FEBRUARY 14th-17th in BAKERSFIELD, CA.
This meet will be open to all AGE GROUPS for those with qualifying times. The full meet info is as follows:
- MEET: Central California Junior Olympics.
- DATE: February 14 (Friday) - February 17th (Monday), 2014.
- SITE: William A. Wheeler Aquatics Complex; 1801 Panorama Drive, Bakersfield, CA (Bakersfield Community College).
- HOTEL: Springhill Suites; 3801 Marriott Drive, Bakersfield, CA. 661-377-4000 or Courtyard Marriott, 3601 Marriott Drive, Bakersfield, CA. 661-324-6660.
Both of these hotels are directly next to one another, which will allow the team to stay in close proximity to one another. The Springhill Suites currently has double bed rooms available. Most of the other rooms are King rooms with pull our sofas.
The hotels are across the street from a Costco, several restaurants, and situated 12 minutes from the pool site.
We anticipate bringing over 40 SWIMMERS to this JO Meet, many of whom should place in the Championship or Consolation Rounds, so be prepared for a lot of back and forth driving from the hotel to the pool.

TEAM MEETING
There will be a TEAM MEETING this WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5th, 4:30PM at the SHALLOW END of the pool area-- not the Jacuzzi/Bar area.
Topics will include the upcoming CENTRAL CALIFORNIA JUNIOR OLYMPICS, Saturday's very important SWIM CLINIC, the next TEAM MEET (Coastal Championships) and our recently-planned ST. PATRICK'S DAY POLAR BEAR PLUNGE FUNDRAISER!
The meeting will take place directly after BEGINNER swim and right before INTERMEDIATE practice. All ADVANCED and ELITE swimmers are expected to attend, as they will have ample time to make their 5:30PM start at Castaic.
ST. PATRICK'S DAY POLAR BEAR PLUNGE
Technically the day before St. Patrick's-- SUNDAY, MARCH 16th-- but we will definitely be celebrating in spirit! The "Plunge" will serve as both a team building and fundraising event.
Three days prior the club will turn all the heaters in the pool OFF, providing those brave enough to endure the chilly waters an exhilarating and challenging experience.
The Plunge will be open to ALL swimmers on the Paseo Aquatics team, who will spend the better part of February and early March collecting sponsors for the fundraiser.
On the day of the Plunge, the pool will be littered with GOLD COINS for the swimmers to collect. Each swimmer will gather as many coins from the pool for as long as they can withstand the water temperature. Each Gold Coin will be worth 50 CENTS.
Once a swimmer leaves the pool, he/she will take their collection of coins to the official counter, who will determine how much money was earned. The Sponsors that each respective swimmer will have enlisted will then pay that total amount to the Paseo Aquatics program.
We will have food prepared by the club, a LEPRECHAUN filling the pool with coins, prizes and more! A Sponsor Sign-Up sheet will be handed out to each Paseo Aquatics swimmer this week so they can begin recruiting Sponsors.
This is going to be an exciting and fun-filled event. Family members and friends are welcome to join us in the festivities.
