Paseo Aquatics - News & Notes - Week of February 24, 2014

NEW MASTERS HOURS!

Reminder: the new MASTERS SWIM HOURS are as follows:

MONDAY - WEDNESDAY - FRIDAY

8:30AM-10:00AM

There is discussion of bringing back the 5AM SESSIONS, but this can only happen with a MINIMUM of 3 MASTERS SWIMMERS participating.

Please speak with Coach Mikaela if you are interested.

TEAM MEETING - MANDATORY - TUESDAY @ 4:30PM!

There will be a MANDATORY Team Meeting this TUEDAY, FEBBRUARY 25th, 4:30PM at the PASEO POOL.

We don't generally call weekly back-to-back meetings, but we have very important information to announce that will impact the team moving forward.

This meeting is mandatory for ALL GROUP levels. Please be there.

COASTAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The COASTAL CHAMPIONSHIPS will begin this weekend, FEBRUARY 28th - MARCH 2nd.

Early weather reports are calling for RAIN all weekend-- so pack accordingly. Lots of dry towels, parkas, canopies and alternate bathing suits are key.

Barring the threat of LIGHTNING, most meets will commit as scheduled. Rain alone will not deter officials from seeing this meet through.

We will keep you posted-- weatherwise-- as the week unfolds.

FAR WESTERN ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The following swimmers have qualified for the FAR WESTERN ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS-- an Invitational Meet comprised of the top swimmers on the West Coast.

This represents the very last Short Course meet of the 2013/14 season. It is a highly competitive event-- and these athletes have achieved very fast time standards in order to qualify. Please congratulate:

The Far Western Zones will take place APRIL 3-6, 2014 at the MORGAN HILL AQUATICS COMPLEX in MORGAN HILL, CA (15 minutes south of San Jose).

Coach Chris and Coach Mikaela will be speaking with all qualified swimmers THIS WEEK to determine which swimmers will compete, and in what events they will swim.

Morgan Hill is a very small town with extremely limited hotel space. More than likely the team will be staying at one of the outlying hotels situated within 12-15 minutes of the pool site.

Given the small size of the group that will be traveling, coaches are discussing the prospect of making this a "Team Trip," meaning parents have the option to send their swimmers with the team and save the cost of a full family commitment.

Travel information will be confirmed for those swimmers and families who have committed to the event.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY POLAR PLUNGE

As we announced, our first annual St. Patrick's POLAR PLUNGE will take place SUNDAY, MARCH 16th, to serve as both a team building and fundraising event.

PLEASE HAND IN YOUR SIGN-UP FORM-- OR EMAIL COACH MIKAELA ([email protected]) TO CONFIRM YOU WILL BE ATTENDING!

We need to know how many swimmers will be participating in the event.

By now all Paseo Aquatics Swimmers should have received a SPONSOR SHEET to be used for recruiting Sponsors. Each Sponsor will pay a sum based on the number of Gold Coins their swimmer collects. Each coin is worth 50 CENTS.

On the day of the Plunge, each swimmer will gather as many coins from the pool for as long as they can withstand the water temperature (the heaters will have been turned off for 3 days!).

Once a swimmer leaves the pool, he/she will take their collection of coins to the official counter, who will determine how much money was earned. Each Sponsor for that respective swimmer will then pay total amount due to the Paseo Aquatics program.

We will have food prepared by the club, a LEPRECHAUN filling the pool with coins, prizes and more!

This is going to be an exciting and fun-filled event. Family members and friends are welcome to join in the festivities.

Feel free to speak with me or any of the coaches if you have any questions.
