PASEO AQUATICS - NEWS & NOTES - WEEK OF APRIL 7th, 2014

FAR WESTERN ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Three Paseo Aquatics swimmers-- LIZA KUZNETSOVA, SONALY WINTERMUTE and JULIA WOLF-- faced without a doubt the fastest competition we've seen all year in the 2014 FAR WESTERN ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS held April 3-6 in Morgan Hill, CA (San Jose), and came away with their heads held high.

The three girls swam in a total of 15 races-- together earning 6 Championship Final appearances. This was no easy task, given the only 10 covetous spots available in each race while facing wave after wave of positively fierce competition.

LIZA KUZNETSOVA swam in the Championship Final of both the 200 and 100 BACKSTROKE and the 200IM-- placing 3rd overall in the 200 Back.

SONALY WINTERMUTE earned Championship Final births in the 200 and 100 BUTTERFLY and the 100 FREESTYLE. Sonaly's amazing performance in the 200 Fly was a Personal Best-- and over a 3 second drop!

JULIA WOLF claimed a spot in the Championship Final of her signature event-- the 50 FREESTYLE-- winning her Heat in the Prelims and claiming 6th overall in a highly competitive race.

Swimmers as far south as Arizona, as far east as Tennessee and north to Canada competed in the 4 day event-- with several athletes either already in the USA's top 10, or achieving top 10 times over the course of the weekend.

We congratulate these girls on a job extremely well done-- and offer a very special thanks to COACH CHRIS DAHOWSKI, who made the trip to San Jose and oversaw every warm-up, race and cool down from start to finish.

It was a long and exhausting weekend, and all of their efforts are to be applauded.

NEW SATURDAY MORNING LONG COURSE PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Paseo Aquatics has secured the EL CARISO LONG COURSE pool in SYLMAR to conduct Long Course practice for the next two weekends-- SATURDAY, APRIL 12th and SATURDAY, APRIL 19th.

These practices will be open to all ELITE GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE groups; ADVANCED; and all COMPETING SWIMMERS in the remaining INTERMEDIATE and BEGINNER group levels.

Official practice times will be announced this week.

BUENAVENTURA LONG COURSE MEET

Paseo's first official Long Course swim meet will be the BUENAVENTURA LONG COURSE MEET on APRIL 26, 27 in VENTURA, CA.

This meet has been posted and is available to "Commit To" on our Paseoaquatics.org website.

You must be ATTACHED-- or have completed the ATTACHED FORM-- to compete for Paseo Aquatics.

The only exceptions are those swimmers competing for their local High Schools.

Coach Mikaela will submit our team entry for this meet on FRIDAY, APRIL 11th. Please see her if you have any questions.

ATTACHING TO PASEO AQUATICS

There seems to be some question surrounding this topic, so we want to make the registration/attaching process abundantly clear:

Paseo Aquatics is a now a USA-Swimming Sanctioned club.

No swimmer will be permitted to compete as a member of Paseo Aquatics-- either individually or as part of a Relay Team-- unless they are officially ATTACHED to the Paseo Aquatics Swim Team (code PATH).

The ONLY exceptions are those swimmers competing for their respective High Schools, who must remain UNATTACHED through the duration of their swim season-- or those swimmers transitioning from another Sanctioned club, who must complete the necessary 120 Day waiting period before attaching to another team.

All other Paseo Aquatics swimmers MUST complete the official ATTACH FORM and submit it to Coach Mikaela along with a check for $10.00 made payable to PASEO AQUATICS.

Do NOT mail the form in yourself. The completed form must be sent in as part of a team submission.

Attaching to Paseo Aquatics (PATH) is NOT an option if you intend to compete with our team. This process is mandatory
