Scott brings 30 years of coaching and teaching experiences to the pool deck. Scott has recently worked with TAC Titans in Cary, NC. Additional experiences include: Longhorn Aquatics as a Site Director and Assistant Coach. He has also worked with other top tier programs such as: Nitro Swimming and Irvine Novaquatics. Scott's experiences also include developing swimmers through all levels including: summer league, high school, age group, senior club teams, college and masters and swim lessons.

Coaching Experience:
Samantha's coaching journey began at the young age of 14 when she
first stepped into the role of a jumper coach. After four
fulfilling years, she transitioned to assistant coach and is now
the proud head coach of her own summer swim team. A lifelong member
of High Point Swim Club, Samantha's experience has come full
circle, and she is thrilled to be back at HPSC as a USA-certified
coach since 2022.
Coaching Philosophy:
At the heart of Samantha’s coaching is the belief in
fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and resilience. She strives to
teach her swimmers that improvement and enjoyment matter just as
much as winning, encouraging them to bounce back from setbacks and
celebrate progress. She creates a positive environment where open
communication is key, and swimmers can thrive regardless of their
challenges or victories.
Coaching Experience with Age Groups:
Samantha has worked with swimmers of all ages and abilities, from
younger swimmers under 12 years old to teens and older competitive
athletes. With a focus on beginner swimmers, Samantha places a
strong emphasis on technique, water safety, and creating a
supportive atmosphere. Her experience with various age groups has
deepened her coaching expertise, enabling her to tailor her
approach to meet each swimmer’s needs.
Certifications & Qualifications:
Samantha is a certified USA Swim Coach, CPR-trained, and a
certified swim instructor. Her qualifications reflect her
commitment to creating a safe and effective learning environment
for swimmers of all levels.
Swim Career Background:
A competitive swimmer since the age of 8, Samantha swam with High
Point Swim Club through her teenage years, participating in both
summer leagues and high school competitions. These formative years
in the pool shaped her passion for the sport, which continues to
inspire her coaching today.
Educational Background & Future Goals:
Currently pursuing a degree in Kinesiology, Samantha plans to use
her education to work as a physical therapist or athletic trainer
in the world of competitive sports. She is excited to continue her
involvement with High Point Swim Club while also expanding her
knowledge in rehabilitation and athlete care.
Personal Interests:
Outside of coaching, Samantha enjoys reading, particularly fantasy
books, and loves spending time with her two dogs. Walking her pups
is a favorite pastime, and she’s always ready to share a
photo of them!
What Motivates Samantha to Coach:
Swimming has been a source of strength and joy for Samantha, and
she wants to share that love with her swimmers. For her, coaching
is about creating lasting memories, helping athletes grow, and
spreading the joy that swimming has brought to her life.

Coaching Experience:
Amy has been coaching swimming for 16 years and has worked with
swimmers of all levels and ages, ranging from 4 to 18 years old.
Throughout her coaching journey, she’s built a reputation for
her passion for teaching strong fundamentals, believing that a
solid foundation is the key to long-term success in the pool.
Coaching Philosophy:
Amy focuses on the essentials—she firmly believes that
mastering the fundamentals is critical for swimmers, particularly
for younger athletes. By developing a strong technical base, her
swimmers are set up for success, both now and in the future.
Coaching Specialties & Certifications:
As a USA Swimming Coach with CPR and First Aid certifications, Amy
has the qualifications to coach swimmers of all ages and levels.
She specializes in stroke fundamentals and is dedicated to helping
her swimmers refine their technique to become more efficient and
faster in the water.
Swim Career Background:
Although Amy swam on her high school’s Swim and Dive team,
her competitive swimming experience pales in comparison to her deep
commitment to teaching and coaching the next generation of
swimmers.
Educational & Relevant Experience:
Amy holds an associate degree in Baking and Pastry, a unique
background that demonstrates her versatility and dedication to her
craft. Beyond coaching, she has spent 17 years working in the
school system, gaining valuable experience that helps her relate to
and effectively coach athletes of all ages.
Personal Interests:
Outside of coaching, Amy enjoys spending time with her family and
hitting the Disc Golf course. She also has a fascinating fun
fact—Amy played for the Carolina Phoenix, a women's full
tackle football team!
What Motivates Amy to Coach:
Amy’s greatest joy as a coach is watching her swimmers
develop and grow. She loves seeing the techniques she teaches
evolve in her swimmers as they become faster and more confident in
the water. The sense of progress and achievement is what drives her
to continue coaching.

With over 38 years of coaching experience, Alex Laughlin brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the pool deck. She is currently the Head Coach of the Developmental Team at Thomasville Community YMCA, where she specializes in nurturing young swimmers and beginners. Alex believes that swimming is more than just a sport—it’s a life skill. Whether swimmers aim for competition or simply want to become comfortable in the water, her coaching approach is centered on fun, encouragement, and building fundamental skills.
Throughout her career, Alex has coached swimmers of all levels, from complete beginners to high school state qualifiers. She’s particularly skilled in motivating developmental-level swimmers, using games and creative techniques to make learning enjoyable. Her certifications include Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, O2, AED, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification, and USA Swimming Coach Certification.
Alex’s coaching philosophy is clear: every child should have basic swimming skills. She’s committed to helping children develop their potential in a supportive and fun environment, hoping to inspire them to continue learning and push their limits. Outside of coaching, Alex is actively involved in her local swim club’s board and advocates for children with differing abilities to engage in community activities. She is also passionate about helping parents navigate the IEP process for their children.
Originally from the suburbs of New York City, Alex now considers this community her home, having built lasting friendships through swimming. An avid New York Yankees fan, she can be found watching games or listening to them during the season. Her greatest joy as a coach comes from watching a swimmer overcome fear and surpass their own expectations.

I am always willing to push them slightly past that level, but ultimately it is up to them. Coach Victoria Fonville joined High Point Swim Club as an Assistant Coach with a passion for helping young swimmers develop both their skills and their love for the sport. In her first year of coaching, she has already made a lasting impact by guiding beginners, as well as 8-12 year-old swimmers in the summer league. With a background in competitive swimming and an education in nutrition, Coach Fonville combines technical expertise with a strong focus on the well-being of her athletes.
Coaching Specialties & Certifications
Coach Fonville specializes in sprinting and is certified in
CPR/First Aid and Coaches Safety Training. Additionally, she is a
USA Swimming certified coach. Her focus is on building confidence
in swimmers of all levels, from those just starting out to those
refining their sprinting techniques. She has experience coaching
beginner swim lessons, ensuring that each swimmer feels supported
and encouraged as they develop.
Swim Career Background
Coach Fonville’s competitive swimming career includes time at
both Oklahoma Baptist University, where she swam for three years,
and NC State, where she competed for two years. She brings with her
a wealth of firsthand knowledge about what it takes to succeed at
the collegiate level and is excited to pass that on to the next
generation of swimmers.
Educational Background & Expertise
Coach Fonville holds a B.S. in Nutrition from NC State and an M.S.
in Nutrition from Meredith College. She is currently pursuing a PhD
in Nutrition at UNC Greensboro. Her academic background, along with
her education in sports nutrition, gives her a unique edge in
helping athletes optimize their performance and fueling their
bodies for success.
Personal Interests & Motivation
Outside of coaching, Coach Fonville is passionate about Crossfit,
hiking, and camping. She also enjoys conducting nutrition research,
which she integrates into her coaching approach to ensure athletes
are maintaining healthy habits. What motivates Coach Fonville most
as a coach is helping kids build confidence while having fun in the
sport of swimming. She believes that the relationships formed
through sports, the teamwork, and the encouragement are what leave
lasting memories for athletes.
