Our Traditional Levels
Please note, we do not allow children under the age of three in our group lessons
Level 1: Basic Water Introduction
Level 1 is a basic water introduction course for those children who are more independent. Getting comfortable in the water is the main goal. Things such as blowing bubble, submerging the head, and floating will be taught. Most skills will be done with assistance. (Average age 3-5)
Water Adjustment
* Bubble Blowing with mouth
* Retrieve Submerged Object at knee level
* Assisted submersion (without fear)
* Can reach out and grab object (supported)
Entry & Exit Skills
* Enter with assistance (without fear)
* Can stand on bench unassisted
* Correctly Exit pool with assistance
* Will walk on deck unassisted
Locomotion
* Move Comfortably Through Water (assisted and with noodle)
* Basic Alternating Leg Action On Front (supported)
* Basic Alternating Leg Action On Back (supported)
* Basic Forward Alternating Arm Action (on bench)
Buoyancy
* Front Float (supported, without grabbing instructor)
* Back Float (supported, without grabbing instructor)
Level 2: Gaining Independence
Level 2 is where the child gains independence in the water. Fears of the water, both deep and shallow, are overcome, and the basic concepts of swimming are introduced. Assistance during skills is also slowly taken away. (Average age 4-7)
Water Adjustment

* Rhythmic Breathing/Bobbing (10 times)

* Jump In & Recover to Standing Position
Locomotion
* Streamline On Front (10 feet)
* Streamline On Back (10 feet)
* Combined Arm & Leg Action On Front (5 yards)
* Combined Arm & Leg Action On Back (5 yards)
Buoyancy
* Front Float (10 seconds)
* Back Float (10 seconds)
* Recover To Standing Position
Level 3: Stroke Development
Level 3 is where the child begins to learn freestyle (front crawl) and the basics of the other strokes. Children must be able to swim independently. By this level, the child is fully comfortable in the water, moving freely by themselves, in both deep and shallow water. To succeed in the next, level the child should be able to swim about 15 yards by themselves on both their front and back, as well as display side breathing. (Average age 5-8)

* Jump In Deep Water & Return To Wall
* Basic Diving From Side (kneeling)
Locomotion
* Streamline On Front (10 yards, with a kick)
* Streamline On Back (10 yards, with a kick)
* Side Breathing* Coordinated Arm & Leg Action On Front 15 yards
* Coordinated Arm & Leg Action On Back 15 yards
* Basic Dolphin Action (kick and body roll)
* Basic Breaststroke Kick with Board
Level 4: Stroke Refinement
Level 4 is where the child enhances the previously learned strokes and learns breaststroke and butterfly. Swimming endurance is also gained at this level with a requirement of 25 yards for both freestyle and backstroke. (Average age 6 & up)

* Head First Dive From Side (standing)
* Feet First Surface Dive (5 feet)
Water Adjustment
* Treading Water ( 1 minute)
* Retrieve object ( head first, 4 feet depth)
Locomotion
* Freestyle 25 yards (side breathing entire way)
* Backstroke 25 yards (on back entire way)
* Breaststroke 15 yards (Legal)* Butterfly 15 yards (Legal)
* Introduction To Turning At The Wall
Summer Swim Team
Summer swim team is for kids who have completed swim lessons and are looking to build strength and endurance in their swimming while also having fun as part of a team! The summer swim team will participate in summer swim meets run by City of Spokane Parks & Rec.
