Boys & Girls are District Champions!
Pine Crest Swimming and Diving won two District Championship titles yesterday as both the girls and boys team won their District meet and now advance to the Region Championships next Friday, November 4, at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center.
The boys dominated the District winning 651- to 402 for St. Andrews, while the girls meet was again extremely close PC 521-St. Andrews 513. All the team scores and top three places are in the box score of the Sunday Sun Sentinel on the high school page.
The Lady Panthers knew it would take a TEAM effort again to defeat St. Andrews which has become a strong rival over the years as the Scots have a strong and deep team. However, led by our Captains Mallory McKeon and Brittany Hammond, the girls understood how important each swim and dive would be to win the Championship. On Friday, there was a team meeting to discuss the possilbility that bad weather may cause for the meet to be a Time Final event and that everyone needed to be ready to give their best effort in the morning.
Then when we got to the meet that morning there was a coaches meeting with the meet refree who explained that FHSAA said if the weather was bad in the evening then the meet would be run and scored as a Time Final event. It was explained at the meeting that if that were to happen then the relay times and individual placings would be what was used for teams to advance to Regions. Pine Crest had planned to use some of the younger swimmers on the morning relays to give them experience in a Championship meet, but when we knew that if the meet were called due to weather, that the times done would be used to advance to Regions then our relays were changed to what was going to swim at night. Not all schools did this thinking they could rest their top swimmers in the morning and make changes at night. Well the meet was called due to weather and our team made sure their performance from the morning would advance them to Regions.
Pine Crest School can be very proud of all the athletes on both the girls and boys team that understood the importance of performing at their best in the morning in order to insure their advancement to Regions. Practically every athlete entered in the meet scored points for Pine Crest.
