The Pine Crest Diving Club competes in the Inaugural Hobie Billingsley Invitational

December 2-4, 2011

The Pine Crest Diving Club attended the Hobie Billingsley Invitational November 30 to December 4 at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, the home of the USA Diving National Training Center. Hobie Billingsley is the legendary two-time Olympic Diving Coach of Indiana University (1959-1989) who coached three Olympic gold medalists, 4 Olympic bronze medalists, 4 Pan American Games gold medalists, a FINA World Cup champion on 1-meter, 115 National Champions and 23 Big Ten Champions.

Team highlights:

Pine Crest Diving Club boys team, Connor Gerrits, Christopher Doolittle and Denny Gulia Janovski,  placed 4th in the Championship Team Awards for Men.

The Pine Crest Diving Club girls team of Carly Ehrlich, Lily Ehrlich, Juliette Pozzuoli, and Ishani Singh placed 7th in the Championship Team Awards for Women.

Pine Crest placed 6th in the Championship Team Awards Overall.

Individual highlights:

Top three medalists in individual events included:

*  Carly Ehrlich, 7th grader,  1st in 12-13 girls 3-meter springboard

*  Lyle Hayes-Macaluso, 6th grader, 2nd in 12-13 boys 1-meter springboard, and 3rd in both 3-meter springboard and platform.

*  Ishani Singh, 5th grader, 2nd in 11&U girls platform

First-time experiences at the inaugural Hobie Billingsley Invitational:

Connor Gerrits competed in his first 3-meter springboard event. Christopher Doolittle competed as a senior diver for the first time. Both Christopher and Connor competed in the finals of the Senior Men’s 1-meter springboard event. Third grader, Lily Ehrlich and 2nd grader, Denny Gulia-Janovski competed in their first out-of state meet at the National Training Center for the sport of diving. Former Pine Crest student, 13 year old Jordan Windle, performed his reverse 3 and one half somersaults (307c) from the 10-meter platform for the first time in competition and hosted his first book signing as a co- author for his first book, An Orphan  No More.
