COACHING STAFF
Fred Lewis Head Coach

Fred Lewis is the Head Coach of St. Petersburg Aquatics. He has been SPA’s full time head coach since 1988. The coaching philosophy of the team comes under his direction. Fred was named 2017 Florida Senior Coach of the Year and is currently a USA Swimming National Team Coach.  He has coached swimmers at all levels including age group, Junior National, Senior National, Olympic Trial Qualifier, and Olympic Team swimmers.  

Fred Lewis is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Health and Physical Education.  As Head Coach of the University of Pittsburg Men’s Varsity Swim team he was named Big East Conference Coach of the Year and Eastern Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year.  His team won the Big East Conference and Diving Championship four years in a row.  

Patty Nardozzi Assistant Coach, Junior Team & HS Group

Coach Patty Nardozzi has been coaching since 2001 in various capacities, and works full time for St. Petersburg Aquatics as an assistant coach with the Junior Team, team administrator, and program director for the swim school. During the summer she coaches the Shore Acres team which is part of SPA’s extensive summer swim league program. Patty also coaches the Shorecrest Swim & Dive Team during the high school season and has done so since 2007.   

Patty is a USA Swimming Level 2 Certified Coach and member of the American Swim Coaches Association and the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.

Patty is married to Dan and has three grown children, all former SPA swimmers, and eight grandchildren, two of which swim for SPA.  She is a long time member of St. Pete Masters and enjoys swimming for the team on a daily basis.

Kevin Mooren Assistant Coach, Junior Team

Coach Kevin Mooren has been coaching since 2006 as an assistant coach with the Junior Team.  During the summer he coaches the Fossil Park team which is part of SPA’s extensive summer swim program.   Kevin also teaches adult swim lessons for the City of St. Petersburg.

Kevin is a USA Swimming Level 1 Certified Coach and swam at Northeast High School when a student there.

Kevin is married and has two daughters, both of who swam for St. Petersburg Aquatics.

Samantha Mooren Assistant Coach, Junior Team

Coach Samantha Mooren has been with St. Petersburg Aquatics since 2006 as a Junior Team and Shore Acres coach. She also is an assistant swim coach with Shorecrest Preparatory School and focuses on the Middle Division program during the high school season.

A former St. Petersburg Aquatics age group swimmer, Samantha is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and is a full-time employee with the City of St. Petersburg. She is a USA Swimming Level 1 Certified Coach.

Phyllis Scheidt Assistant Coach, Junior Team

Coach Phyllis Scheidt has been with St. Petersburg Aquatics since 2017 and specializes in coaching the beginner swim team members.  She is an ASCA Level 1 swim coach.  Most of her aquatic instructional experience comes via her twelve years teaching lesson as an American Red Cross Instructor, which she still does in the summer months. 

Phyllis is a proud member of St. Pete Masters and frequently competes herself. She is married, has two daughters and one grandchild.

Abigail Berlin Assistant Coach - McLin Site

Coach Abby Berlin has been a long-time member of Saint Petersburg Aquatics. She swam competitively for eight years with SPA and began coaching for the club in 2021.  She coached SPA's Summer Swim League for the past four summers, first at Northwest, then Fossil Park, and now is working year-round at McLin.  Abby has also been employed by the City of St. Petersburg since 2020 as a lifeguard, water safety instructor and pool supervisor.  Abby has a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Florida.  While attending UF, she taught adult swim lessons and CPR/First Aid classes to students on campus.  Currently, Abby works as a 4th grade teacher for Pinellas County Schools. She is a certified K-6 educator, Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor, and a USA Swimming Level 1 Certified Coach.

Marina Falcone Assistant Coach - McLin Site

Coach Marina Falcone, a Level 1 USA Swimming coach, found her niche in competitive swimming at a young age and quickly became a standout in a number of distances and events.  Her career took off in high school and today she continues to compete in open water competitions.  The water is her true passion and dedicated her efforts to swimming while on the William and Mary Swim and Dive Team (2005-2009).  Her hard work and consistent training paid off with multiple school records and top NCAA finishes.  She was the first woman in the history of William and Mary to break 5:00 in the 500 Freestyle.   She continued to train and compete post college under the direction of Paul Yetter with T2 Aquatics in Naples, Florida at the national level from 2011 to 2012 and with Nations Capitol Swimming from 2012-2014 where she swam under the direction of Coach Bruce Gemmell, who also coached Olympian Katie Ledecky.  A coach, as well as a competitive athlete, Marina has coached competitive youth programs for many years in Maryland and Florida, most recently at Berkeley Preparatory School as part of the lower division swim program, the club team and high school team staff.  She previously taught physical education for three years in Pinellas County Schools.  Marina has been a part of St. Pete Masters swim team for six years and is excited to continue her coaching career with St. Petersburg Aquatics!
