Assistant Coach: Heidi Gerkin Swim Lesson Coordinator Coach Heidi has a background in young swimmer development and stroke instruction. Before relocating full-time to Palm Coast, she was the Developmental Coach for the Shreveport Elks Swim Team and worked for the YMCA of Northwest Louisiana, where she was the Swim Lessons Program Coordinator and a swim instructor for infant, age group, and adult swim lessons. Coach Heidi was active in aquatics as a child and began teaching swim lessons as a teenager. She re-entered the swimming community after a career as a television news anchor, where she found herself frequently covering drowning tragedies. With the goal of creating change and bringing aquatic instruction to under-served communities, she became involved with a partnership between the YMCA and Caddo Parish (Louisiana) Schools called “Swim for Life”. As a “Swim for Life” instructor, Heidi was instrumental in bringing life-saving aquatic instruction and water-safety skills to more than 3,000 second grade students in the district each school year. In addition to age group coaching, Coach Heidi is a certified USA Swimming Official.
Assistant Coach: Quinn Anderson Coach Quinn passion for swimming began in highschool. Where he was labeled as team captain, however, that did not stop there. Quinn enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. He did lessons and taught Marines how to swim. While serving Quinn attended a course called MCIWS course (Marine Corps instructor of water survival). Which consisted of a 3 week course of learning how to rescue victims, administer emergency first aid, and how to further identify weak swimmers and how to correct them. This course has a 50% fail rate. For every 1200 Marines, there are usually 4 of these Instructors. Quinn used these skills and taught plenty of Marines how to properly survive shipwreck scenarios, and how to survival swimming in open water environments _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Assistant Coach - Matt Araujo _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Assistant Coach - Mark Schoenfelder COACHING: 1988-93 Plantations II Swim Team (MCSL), Damascus, MD - Head Coach 1994-2002 Kentlands Swim Team (MCSL), N.
