Ambush Swim Team Bad Weather Policy

Why is the pool closed when there is thunder & lightning?

Due to the vast network of underground wiring and pipes surrounding the pool facility we still take care that lightning strikes within 7 miles can be conducted to the large body of water indoors. Our policy is to stop and remove swimmers from the water for 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder or from the lightning weather app.

What if thunder & lightning occur after practice has started?

The staff will direct the swimmers to get out of the water and wait the 30 minutes required time. Coaches may offer a dry-land exercise program during this waiting period. If bad weather persists swimmers may be directed to call parents to pick them up early as well as a GroupMe message being sent out.

Under what cold weather conditions do you cancel practice?

We do not want to put any of our staff and/or ambush families at risk on the roadways so we typically will cancel practice if we determine the weather will be at freezing or below with moisture on the road.

How do we find out if there will be practice or not?

Coaches will send out a GroupMe message at least 15 minutes before the start of practice if there has been lightning in the area. Swim Lessons will have an email sent to them at least 30 minutes before practice.
