What to Expect At A Swim Meet

Timeline:

Meet start times are available on PDFs available on the "Events" tab. Timelines will also often be available before a meet. However, please remember all timelines are tentative and things may move faster or slower than listed.

**Swimmers should arrive 15 minutes before warmups to have enough time to park, find the team, and get ready to hop in the pool.

Location

The location information can be found on the PDF of the meet information on the "Events" tab. Please pay attention to the location and any parking information listed as there are often no parking zones, etc. Coaches will also send out any additional instructions/information if needed.

Parents & Families

We really want swim meets to be a positive experience for the kids - they've worked hard at practice and now is their time to show you what they've been working on! What we ask from the families is that you show your swimmers support and encouragement. As coaches, we will work with your swimmers on the technique/race aspect of things, but high fives and positivity from parents will go a long way!

Swimmers

We will work with the swimmers on what their routine should be at swim meets, but here are the basics. Swimmers will need to come see their coach before and after every event so we can remind them of what to concentrate on and encourage them before their races, as well as discuss them with them after (we tell the younger kids its a coach-swim-coach sandwich). We ask that only the swimmers come over to the coaches area if possible since it can get really crowded. Smaller kids can come up in groups (since they are often in the same events) or they can come up with an older swimmer. Kids 10 & up should be able to keep track of their events themselves, as well as heat and lane assignments, while parents will probably need to help remind swimmers under 10. Heat sheets are sold by the host team at the meet and usually cost around $5.
