Coaches Note 12-15-09
Happy Tuesday (10 days until Christmas!)
Without further ado:
Red/Green Recap
Another great developmental meet is in the books. A huge thank you to our army of parent volunteers who made the whole thing happen! We had 73 swimmers participate in the meet and had 111 best times! In particular, our Age Group and Ripples swimmers swam exceptionally well. Way to go! Congratulations to Matthew Stapleton (100 breast) and Rachel Millet (50 fly) for breaking team records!
Washington Senior Invite:
11 of our top swimmers are taking off on Thursday to race against the best in Washington. We’re traveling by bus over to the 1990 Goodwill games pool, the best pool on the west coast. You’ll be able to check out the results live through this link: [Live Results] Good luck swimmers!
Jingle Bell:
15 swimmers are braving the cold and heading down to the Jingle Bell meet in Moscow Idaho. This is the first meet in IES that has prelims and finals. For those of you who may not know what that is, make sure to read the training tip of the week. Good luck Jingle Bell’ers.
Championship Season
We are now only 8 weeks away from the Junior Championship Meet in Moscow and only 10 weeks out from IES Short Course Champs! These meets are huge team events, and we would love it if every swimmer could participate in these meets. Again, Junior Champs in Moscow is open to ALL SWIMMERS 14 & under, and we are hoping to have at least 75% of the Age Group attend that meet. Ripples should also circle this weekend on the calendar—it is a great opportunity to expose our swimmers to championship style meets! IES Champs requires qualifying times for 14 & under swimmers that can be found under the Time Standards Tab of the website; any 15 & over swimmer can attend the meet!
Christmas/New Years Schedule
Please check the Calendar Tab of the website for the practice schedule over Christmas and New Years. Again, you must select the name of the group you wish to view on the drop down menu, or else you won’t see anything!
Training Tip of the Week
Prelims and Finals - these are two words you may start to hear as your swimmers get more and more involved in swimming. You will especially run into these terms at Championship meets. I will try and explain what these terms mean for swimming:
Typically prelims are swum in the morning, just like any other meet. The fastest swimmers are then selected to swim the same event again that evening in Finals. If you enter finals in 8th place, and finish in 5th in the final heat, you score 5th place points! It is important to swim as fast as you can in prelims in order to qualify for finals and score points for your team. Meets like Jr. Champs in early February and Sr. Champs a few weeks later will have Prelims & Finals formats.
