Coaches Note 12-22-2009
Christmas week is here! Make sure that you are aware of the practice schedule for the week, which can be found under the Calendar Tab of the website. This is an important time for the team, as we are doing a lot of hard work to prepare for our February championship meets. If you are in town, this is a great opportunity to come and get a great workout—c’mon, what else are you doing?!? Sitting around playing video games!?! Come to practice!
January Storm Entries:
This is an opportunity to swim at one of the finest facilities in all the Northwest. Please come on down for this meet. Sign-ups are open until December 29th. Check out the link here to sign-up: [January Storm]
Washington Senior Invite Results:
We broke 25 team records, placed 14th over all(with only 12 swimmers), and finished with an average of 3 best times per athlete! Check out the results in this link [Washington Senior Invite] and or watch the swims on Floswimming: [Floswimming Login info]
Jingle Bell Results:
We don’t have the official results from Jingle Bell yet, but from what I gathered, with only 6 swimmers on Fiday, and 11 on Saturday, we placed 3rd overall, with 3 team records and many a best time.
Training Tip of the Week:
With Christmas training, it’s very easy to simply show up and go through the motions. Don’t get me wrong—please, show up! In a sport like swimming, it’s a lot more than half of the battle. Our challenge to all of our swimmers during the next two weeks of intense training is to not only show up, but show up ready to practice with 1) intelligence and 2) intensity. By intelligence, we mean paying attention to details, such as turns, kickouts, and breakouts, while focusing well on what your coaches are trying to help you with. By intensity, we mean not just swimming sets, but attacking them with purpose and determination. These are two principles that we will lead to life-long success, not just in swimming, but in everything that you do as a person.
We wish all of you a joyous and peaceful Christmas, surrounded by family and friends. We are so thankful for such a great year and to have so many wonderful people on this team—we can’t say it enough how much we appreciate your contributions to our success. Have a Merry Christmas and let’s make 2010 our best year yet!
Kevin and Keddy
