Coaches Note 2-16-2010

We are the Champions!

The Spokane Waves brought home the IES Junior Championship Trophy for the second straight year!!!   40 swimmers contributed to the victory, with tons of great swims and best times.  Click here to read all about it. (Picture is Keddy getting thrown in by the Age-Group in celebration)

By the way, did you know that we have three coaches who swim for Whitworth University?  They had their conference championship meet last weekend— click here to find out how Coach Rory, Coach Christina, and Coach Quinton swam; it’s pretty impressive!

Swim-a-thon: Friday, May 7, 2010

Be sure to mark this date on the calendar for our annual Swim-a-thon!  This is our only fundraiser for the year, and we need all families to participate in order to ensure the long-term financial health of the team.  More information is coming soon.

IES Short Course Champs: February 26-28 – Ellensburg, Washington

We have 47 swimmers who have qualified to compete at Inland Empire Short Course Championships!  We need everyone to sign up by Thursday so we can get entries to the host team.  We really want every swimmer who is qualified to go.  Contact Keddy if you want to go and you need a ride or someone to stay with or both—we’ll work hard to make it happen.

Volunteers Needed!

We are still looking for a volunteer to cover the following shifts in the Waves Store at the pool: Monday 5:30-6:30 & 7:30-8:30; Wednesday 7:00-8:30; Friday 7:00-8:30.  It is an easy way to get your volunteer hours in!  If you are interested, please call Dede at 465-2786.

Shamrock Shake Up: March 12-14 and Triple Pentathlon: April 16-18 – Whitworth Aquatic Center

Our annual hosted invitational swim meets are fast approaching.  Remember, these meets are HUGE compared to our developmental meets, so we need all parents to help make them happen.  Job Sign Up on the website is coming soon!

Training Tip of the Week

Hard work becomes simply hard if there is no rest to make it work.  You need to make sure that you are recharging yourselves after workouts—eating reasonably healthy and balanced meals, maintaining consistent sleep habits, and doing everything possible to balance the stresses of your life (school, family, friends, etc.)  While we tend to think about this as we get close to big meets, this is true for every phase of your swimming career.  Rest helps you to maximize your workouts so they provide the most benefit.  If you are struggling in practice, don’t just examine how hard you are working, examine how you are resting as well.

Great job again at Junior Champs—we are so proud of all of you and are incredibly excited for the future of the team.  Keep up the great work!!!  Way to go Waves!

Kevin & Keddy
