Swimmers of the Month: March

Ripples: Amariah Adams

This is Amariah’s first year with the Waves. She has been making remarkable improvements over the past few months, and even completed a 100 yard backstroke at the Shamrock Shake-up Meet. Amariah has a consistent positive attitude, and is a joy to coach, and asset to the team.

Age Group: Abi Millet

Abi had a breakout meet at Shamrock.  After a rough Friday night, Abi was able to rally Saturday and Sunday, dropping time in every event on Sunday and 8 of her 13 total events.  More importantly, she had a huge mental break through that carried into her workouts heading into spring break.  Great job, Abi!

Regionals: Mandi Edlin

Mandi has been on the radar for Swimmer of the Month since the first practice in September.  She is an incredibly hard worker and is a fantastic teammate.  She had a fantastic Shamrock Shake Up Meet, dropping tons of time in the 400 IM and the 200 Back, while swimming the mile for the first time, achieving a 13-14 IES Champs qualifying time.  Great job Mandi!

Seniors: Madi Lydig

Madi had an amazing March.  She started the month by sharpening up her skills to compete at Sr. Sectionals, a showcase meet for the fastest swimmers on the West coast.  She dropped 4 seconds in her 200 back, and set several 13-14 team records, as well as contributed to Team records on relays.  Then, two weeks later, in an age-group showcase meet (Age Group Sectionals) she went out and improved in all her races, Won the 200 Back, and qualified to swim at Jr. Nationals.  Great job Madi!

Training Tip of the Week

Swimming is like no other sport.  The sensations of being in the water cannot be duplicated anywhere else.  When you walk, it’s similar to running… When you shower, it’s not at all like swimming.  With that said, showing up and getting in the water is half the battle.  The more familiar your body becomes with swimming, the easier it will be to adapt and change technique.  Hope to see you all at the pool soon!

One last thing: if you’d like to read up on what happened at the Annual Meeting, click here.

That’s it for the week; see you in the pool!
