Coaches Note 04-13-10

It is Triple Pentathlon week—warm ups begin at 5:00 PM on Friday, while Saturday begins at 8:00 AM and Sunday 7:30 AM.  We’ll be posting a timeline on the website today or tomorrow.  Be sure to sign up for volunteering in order to make sure the meet runs as smoothly as Shamrock did.  Thanks for all your help; here’s what else is happening:

Swim-a-thon: May 7, 2010

Call your grandparents; email your dad’s best friend from college; make a YouTube video!  Make sure that you are working towards getting at least one month’s training fees for this year’s Swim-a-thon.  The actual swimming portion of the event will be on Friday, May 7; please try and raise funds leading up to the date and the two weeks or so afterwards.  Remember, donors can pledge a dollar amount rather than an amount per lap.  Again, thanks for working so hard to help out the team!

Neptune Invitational—May 14-16: Lewiston, ID

All 13 and younger (non-seniors) are heading to Lewiston for the Neptune Invitational May 12-14.  This is our first long course meters meet of the year, and Keddy wants to take full advantage of the opportunity.  Here’s the plan:

1)      There will be no practice in Spokane on Friday night.  However, Keddy will be down in Lewiston hanging out at the 50 meter pool and will offer a practice to anyone who wants to attend (please, don’t make Keddy lonely!)  It will be about an hour, and several other IES teams will also be practicing Friday night.

2)      There will also be a practice/cool down on Saturday afternoon after the meet, so please stick around.  It will also be about an hour and there will also be other IES teams practicing.

3)      After our practice/cool down on Saturday, we’ll have a TEAM DINNER at, arguably, one of the best pizza places in the Northwest—Fazzari’s!  Keddy is setting this up, so more details will follow.

Pac Coast Invitational: May 12-14 Federal Way, WA (Senior Group Only)

The Entries for this meet are due by Friday.  Please get those in.  I am also looking for 1 more chaperone if anyone is interested.

Swim-a-Thon: May 7th!

Our only Team fundraiser of the year is coming up on Friday, May 7.  Please work hard for our team.  This is an opportunity to help pay pool rent, buy new equipment (kickboards, clocks, etc.), and support our team. Remember: the top fundraisers will be get prizes and some fun time with the coaches!!!

Training tip of the Week:  Making Goals

Making goals will give you something to work for.  Often times where we want to go is too far away for us to imagine being there.  Goals are the small steps we make in-between here and there.  For instance, If you want to swim in the Olympics, you must first learn how to put your face in the water, then you need to learn how to get to the other side of the pool.  Having long term goals, (to swim in College), and short term goals (moving up a group), are all step you will take along the way.  One last thing: Every day you are moving closer or further from your goals…
